Chapter 17 - The Triumph of Florence

Two months later, the golden winter sun bathed the historic city of Florence in an ethereal glow.

The grand reopening of the Palazzo Medici Riccardi—a restoration project led entirely by Studio Moretti in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture—was the cultural event of the European year. Architects, dignitaries, critics, and art historians from across the globe had gathered in the ancient stone courtyard, which had been restored to its Renaissance magnificence through Anna’s visionary engineering.

The whispers in the crowd were no longer about the scandalous divorce in New York or the downfall of Vance Enterprises. They were about Francesca Moretti.

"A masterstroke of light and structural preservation," declared the chief critic of *Architectural Digest*. "She has proven that modern engineering can breathe life into antiquity without violating its soul."

Anna stood on the grand balcony overlooking the illuminated courtyard, watching the elite of Europe raise their glasses in her honor. She was dressed in an emerald green silk gown that cascaded gracefully to the floor, her hair adorned with delicate gold pins.

At her side, Ethan, now eight, looked handsome in his first tailored blazer, his eyes shining with awe as he pointed at the restored vaulted ceilings. Little Sophie held Julian’s hand, giggling as the tall nobleman showed her the hidden fresco details on the marble archway.

"Look, Mama!" Ethan beamed, running to hug her waist. "Everyone is clapping for you! They put your name on the bronze plaque by the entrance!"

Anna knelt down, hugging her son tightly, kissing his forehead. "They are clapping for all of us, my love. Because we built this together."

Julian approached, lifting Sophie into his arms with effortless grace. The little girl rested her head on his shoulder, completely at home in his presence. Julian’s gaze met Anna’s, and the warmth between them was palpable to everyone in the grand hall.

"The Minister just announced the commission for the Venice Biennial," Julian whispered close to her ear, a proud smile curving his lips. "They want Studio Moretti to represent the Italian pavilion. You have conquered Florence, Francesca. The rest of the world is waiting."

Anna looked out over the sea of smiling faces, feeling an overwhelming surge of gratitude. She had lost the life she thought she wanted, only to find the life she was truly born to live.
