Chapter 66 - Rendezvous at Dead Man’s Reef

By nightfall, the Gulfstream had touched down on a desolate, storm-swept military airstrip on the Moroccan coast. From there, Beatrice’s underworld network transferred us to a high-speed black-ops interceptor vessel hidden among the jagged rocks of Dead Man’s Reef.
The waves crashed violently against the reinforced carbon-fiber hull of our stealth boat. Julian was busy checking munitions, loading armor-piercing rounds into suppressed tactical rifles, while Dr. Thorne monitored Leo in the pressurized cabin below deck.
"Clara," Julian said quietly, stepping up beside me on the open deck as the cold sea spray whipped across our faces. "You know what entering *The Leviathan* means. It isn't just a yacht or an oil rig. It’s a decommissioned guided-missile destroyer converted into a floating citadel for the global elite. There are over two hundred heavily armed mercenaries aboard, automated defense turrets, and biometric clearance checkpoints at every bulkhead."
"I don't care if it's guarded by the armies of hell," I said coldly, racking the slide of my 9mm pistol and snapping it into my chest holster. "They took my child's mind. They thought because I was an abandoned wife, because Richard locked me out and left my baby to crawl like an animal on the floor, that I was helpless."
I looked out across the black expanse of the ocean where the faint silhouette of a colossal vessel loomed on the horizon like an iron beast crouching on the water.
"They forgot that when you kick a cub, the mother doesn't just bite back," I whispered. "She hunts you until your entire bloodline is extinguished."
Julian allowed a faint, dangerous smile to touch his lips. "The sonar cloak is active. We have a thirty-minute window before their satellite array recalibrates. If we don't breach the lower ballast doors and secure the neutralizer by midnight, the Chimera activation sequence will become irreversible."
I went below deck one last time. Leo was awake, though his voice was barely a whisper. He looked up at me with heavy, fever-glazed eyes.
"Mommy..." he whispered, his tiny fingers trembling as he reached for my hand. "Are you going to fight the bad men again?"
I knelt down, pressing a tender kiss against his cheek, letting him feel the steady, unshakable beat of my heart. "Mommy is going to finish this, baby. And when I come back, you will never have to hide, never have to crawl, and never have to be afraid again. Do you trust Mommy?"
Leo nodded slowly, a tiny, courageous smile gracing his pale lips. "Mommy is the bravest lion in the world."

"Rest now, my brave little man," I murmured softly. "The lioness is going hunting."
