Chapter 18 - The Melody of Truth

We arrived back at the coastal estate under heavy federal escort. The FBI had now taken full jurisdiction over the case, recognizing that Arthur Sterling was not merely a wealthy socialite, but the kingpin of an international criminal syndicate that had compromised multiple state officials.
Leo was in the living room, coloring quietly on the floor under the watchful eyes of three federal agents. When he saw me burst through the door, covered in mud and rain, he dropped his crayons and ran straight into my arms.
"Mommy! Mommy, you were gone so long!" he cried, wrapping his tiny arms around my neck.
I sank to the floor, pulling him tightly against my chest, burying my face in his soft hair. The scent of baby shampoo and safety washed over me, grounding my shattered nerves.
"I'm here, my brave boy," I whispered, kissing his cheeks. "Mommy is here. You are safe. Nobody is ever going to take you away."
Julian knelt beside us, gently placing the antique music box onto the coffee table.
Leo’s eyes widened as he looked at the wooden box. A faint shadow crossed his small face, but this time, he didn't cower. He looked from the box to Julian, then back to me.
"Daddy's singing bird," Leo said softly.
"Do you remember the song, Leo?" I asked gently, holding his little hands. "The song Daddy used to make you sing when you were looking at the bird?"
Leo nodded slowly. "Daddy said if I forgot the numbers, the bad man with the cane would come take my toys away."
My heart broke into a thousand pieces. Dominic had terrorized this child even while embedding the passcodes into his memory, using fear as an anchor.
"The bad man can never touch you again, Leo," Julian said, his voice deep, warm, and unshakable. "Uncle Julian and Mommy are here. You are the strongest boy in the world. What were the numbers, Captain?"
Leo closed his eyes, taking a deep, shuddering breath. Then, in a tiny, melodic voice, he began to sing a nursery rhyme, but replacing the words with a sequence of letters and numbers:
*"Seven blue ships, sailing on the sea... Nine silver stars for Mommy and me... Three golden keys, locked in twenty-four... Zero dark nights forevermore."*
`7-B-S-S-9-S-S-M-M-3-G-K-2-4-0-D-N-F-M`
A federal cyber analyst sitting at the dining table rapidly typed the eighteen-character string into the decryption interface connected to the micro-drive.
A low, digital chime echoed through the room.
**ACCESS GRANTED.**
The screen flooded with thousands of confidential documents: offshore bank accounts totaling over forty billion dollars, maritime cargo manifests detailing smuggled weapons, and the smoking gun—an audio recording of Arthur Sterling directly ordering the sabotage of the *SS Northern Star*, framing Dominic and securing an insurance payout of two billion dollars.
The federal prosecutor in the room took off his glasses, his face pale.
"Arrest warrants for Arthur Sterling are being signed by the Attorney General right now," he announced. "Every asset connected to the Sterling name is frozen. Raid teams are already en route to Arthur's penthouse in Manhattan."
A wave of overwhelming relief washed over me. It was over. We had won. The Sterling empire was dead, and Leo was finally free.
Or so we believed.
Just as the agents began packing their laptops, the house’s exterior perimeter alarm shrieked.

A massive explosion ripped through the front security gate, rattling the foundation of the house and shattering the front bay windows into a storm of crystalline shards.
