Chapter 51 - Counter-Checkmate

By three o'clock that afternoon, Sterling Global was stabilized.

Tristan and I sat side-by-side in the executive office, signing the emergency governance restructuring documents before the cameras of the world’s leading financial networks. The markets rallied spectacularly. Sterling stock soared twelve percent in after-hours trading as news of the reunited heirs, backed by absolute institutional transparency, swept Wall Street.

"The board approved the joint-chairmanship unanimously," Tristan said, tossing his gold Montblanc pen onto the desk and leaning back. For the first time all day, a genuine, warm smile appeared on his exhausted face. "I have to admit, sister... you are terrifyingly good at this."

"Arthur taught me," I answered, smiling back. "And he left half of it to you. We rebuild together, Tristan. The Sterling name won't be built on blackmail and blood anymore."

"Not until we finish Evelyn," Ethan said, entering the room. He had changed into tactical gear, carrying three secure satphones and a nautical satellite chart. "The French Navy and US Coast Guard have set a naval cordon twelve miles off the coast of Montauk. Coastal radar detected a commercial salvage vessel anchored near the historical trench coordinates Martin mentioned."

"The vessel is registered as *The Black Coral*," Tristan noted, scanning the satellite feed. "It's a heavy-lift deep-sea explorer equipped with commercial dive bells and submarine docking bays. Evelyn's sub has already docked with it."

"She’s retrieving the bonds right now," I said, rising from my chair. "Once those bonds are loaded onto a private helicopter, she can vanish into South America or any non-extradition sanctuary on earth."

"We're not letting her leave," Ethan said, cocking the slide of his sidearm and checking the chamber. "The strike team is ready on the helipad at the Hudson. Coast Guard tactical units will board simultaneously."

Tristan stood up, unbuttoning his suit jacket and reaching for the tactical vest Marcus brought in. "I'm coming with you."

"Tristan, you don't have to—" I began.

"She murdered my mother, Claire," Tristan interrupted, his gray eyes burning with pure, unyielding resolve. "She stole twenty-six years of my life and turned me into a weapon against my own blood. I am seeing this through to the very end."

I looked at Ethan, who gave a brief, approving nod.

"Alright," I said, buckling my tactical harness. "Let's go end this."
