Chapter 29 - The Boardroom Execution

The silence in the Plaza Grand Ballroom was suffocating. Eight hundred of the most powerful people on Earth held their breath, caught between the sheer theatrical shock of Ethan Vance’s resurrection and the icy, unyielding presence of the woman walking toward the stage.
Julian Vance’s political mask shattered in real time. His knuckles turned white against the mahogany podium, his chest heaving beneath his bespoke tuxedo.
"Security!" Julian roared into the microphone, his voice cracking with sudden desperation. "Remove these trespassers! This is a private sovereign assembly! Guards, detain them immediately!"
A dozen armed security contractors in black suits surged forward from the perimeter of the ballroom, their hands reaching inside their jackets.
Before they could take three steps, a sharp, metallic whistle cut through the hall.
From the four service entrances surrounding the ballroom, forty men in charcoal suits stepped forward in perfect military unison, raising semi-automatic carbines fitted with tactical suppressors. The silver falcon pins on their lapels gleamed under the chandeliers.
"Nobody moves," Marcus's voice echoed through the room with chilling authority. "Any weapon cleared from a holster will be met with lethal force."
The Vance contractors instantly froze, their hands locked in place, assessing the disciplined crossfire surrounding them. One by one, with agonizing slowness, they raised their empty hands and stepped back against the walls.
The guests gasped, several women shrieking in panic as the financial elite realized they were completely surrounded by a private army that did not answer to the Senator.
I ascended the marble steps of the stage, my silk gown trailing behind me with effortless elegance. Ethan and Chloe followed like prisoners marched to the scaffold, collapsing onto the leather chairs beside the stage under the watchful eyes of two Sterling guards.
I walked directly up to the podium, stopping less than an arm's length from Julian Vance.
"You look pale, Senator," I said, my voice carrying cleanly through the live broadcast microphones to millions of viewers watching worldwide. "Is the acquisition not proceeding according to your schedule?"
Julian leaned forward, his teeth bared in a feral whisper that bypassed the mic. "You stupid little girl. You think parading Ethan out here changes anything? I control the Treasury board! I control the regulatory commission! The paper deeds are legally declared lost at sea! Your name doesn't exist on the digital registry!"
"Is that so?" I smiled.
I turned toward the central video wall behind us.
"Marcus. Override the feed."
The massive screens behind Julian flickered violently. The Vance Global Consortium crest shattered into digital static, replaced instantly by high-definition satellite surveillance footage.
The screens displayed an offshore banking facility in the Cayman Islands. Then, a live feed inside the private vault of the Manhattan Diamond Exchange. On the right side of the screen, bank ledgers began scrolling at lightspeed—millions of transaction lines detailing Julian Vance’s systematic embezzlement of military contracts, offshore kickbacks, and the unauthorized wire transfers used to fund the mercenary strike team in Scotland.
"Senator Julian Vance," I announced, turning back to the sea of stunned billionaires, journalists, and corporate titans. "For twelve years, you used your position on the Senate Finance Committee to launder billions through shell corporations registered under your illegitimate son's name. When my father uncovered your network, you attempted to assassinate him over international waters. When you failed to break into his sovereign trusts, you forced Ethan to marry me, keeping me isolated under threat of financial ruin."
"Lies!" Julian shouted, slamming his fist onto the podium. "She is a mentally unstable woman who has been missing for years! Ethan, tell them! Tell them she's insane!"
Julian glared at his son with murderous intensity, demanding the final lie that would save his skin.
Every camera in the room whipped around to focus on Ethan Vance.
Ethan looked up, his lip split, tears spilling down his face. He looked at his father—the man who had ordered him beaten, betrayed, and discarded—and then he looked at me, standing like an empress upon the ruins of his world.
"It's true," Ethan whispered into the nearest microphone, his voice breaking into a sob that echoed across the globe. "Everything Claire said is true. My father ordered the hit on Arthur Sterling. He ordered me to marry Claire to steal the sovereign codes. He... he tried to kill me last night in the Diamond Exchange."
A collective roar erupted from the press gallery as flashes ignited like a wall of lightning.
Julian stumbled backward, knocking over the heavy mahogany chair behind him. "You... you traitorous bastard..."
"The game is over, Julian," a low, deep voice resonated from the VIP terrace.
The crowd parted once more.

Walking down the center aisle, clad in a full charcoal bespoke three-piece suit, his silver hair neatly combed, his blue eyes burning with the cold fire of a resurrected king, was Arthur Sterling.
