Chapter 19 - The Counter-Strike

Tears blurred my vision as I heard that voice over the radio. Arthur Sterling wasn't trapped in the panic room; he had outmaneuvered Vance’s death squad from the shadows, turning Mayfair into a calculated kill-zone.

Two more precision rounds cracked from the rooftops, eliminating the remaining ambushers. Within seconds, Metropolitan Police sirens began wailing in the distance, echoing off the historic brick facades of Mayfair.

"The street is clear!" Julian shouted, pushing open his door and scanning the perimeter. "Police are two minutes out! We need to move before the cordon closes!"

Maxwell helped me out of the smoking vehicle. My legs were shaking, but my mind was sharper than it had ever been. "Where is he, Maxwell?"

From the shadows of an adjacent Georgian townhouse, a side entrance opened. A team of four elite private contractors emerged, escorting a tall figure in a heavy wool coat.

He stepped under the dim glow of a London streetlamp.

Arthur Sterling had aged. Silver streaked his thick hair, and a jagged scar ran from his left temple down to his jawline—a permanent souvenir from the plane crash. But his eyes were the same piercing, brilliant blue that had commanded boardrooms and terrified adversaries for four decades.

"Claire," he spoke, his voice thick with emotion.

"Dad," I breathed, breaking into a run across the rain-soaked cobblestones.

He caught me in his arms, wrapping his trench coat around me as if I were still ten years old. The scent of sandalwood and pipe tobacco—his signature scent—overwhelmed my senses, grounding me in reality. He was real. He was warm. He was alive.

"Forgive me, my brave girl," he whispered into my hair, his powerful frame trembling slightly. "Forgive me for the pain I caused you."

"You should have told me," I sobbed against his shoulder before pulling back, wiping the rain and tears from my cheeks. "I could have fought beside you."

A faint, proud smile touched Arthur’s scarred lips. "You *did* fight beside me, Claire. In Miami, you broke their front line. Here in London, you cut off their head. But Alistair Vance is still breathing, and he has fled to his ancestral estate in the Scottish Highlands."

"Then we don't give him time to breathe," I replied, steel entering my voice. "We finish this tonight."
