Chapter 47 - The Poisoned Boardroom

Tristan dropped the iron-bound chest onto the floor. The brass lock gave way, spilling yellowed parchment, sealed police dossiers, and encrypted audio discs across the polished granite.
He dropped to his knees, his hands trembling violently as he scanned the top document—a coroner’s report from Kensington, dated June 1998, bearing Evelyn’s personal offshore wire receipts paying off the forensic examiner.
"She killed my mother..." Tristan breathed, his voice cracking, the aristocratic arrogance completely shattered into agonizing grief. "Everything she told me... every hatred she fostered in me against you... was a lie."
I walked forward slowly, past Ethan, and crouched down beside him. I placed a hand gently on his shaking shoulder. "Arthur was not a saint, Tristan. He was ruthless in business, and he made terrible compromises to survive. But he didn't abandon you to hurt you. He was terrified of what Evelyn would do to both of us if she had complete control."
Tristan looked up at me, his gray eyes shining with unshed tears—eyes that carried the exact reflection of the father we shared. "I gave Martin proxy authority for this morning’s emergency shareholder summit," he choked out, terror suddenly flashing across his features. "The board meets in less than forty minutes. Martin isn't working for me, Claire. He's working directly for Evelyn's ghost syndicate! They're staging an emergency liquidation vote to sell Sterling Global's maritime logistics to an offshore front company called Cerberus Holdings!"
"Then we stop them," Ethan said sharply, inspecting the manual release valve on the blast door console. "We have the original joint trust documents. But we have thirty-five minutes to get back to the 60th floor of Sterling Tower before Martin signs the execution deeds."
Tristan reached into the bottom of the chest and pulled out a heavy platinum key embedded with a digital microchip. "Arthur left the master security override in here. It opens this vault, and it gives absolute administrative control over the building's broadcast network."
He stood up, wiping his face, his posture snapping back into steel-clad resolve. "You defeated Evelyn in the Mediterranean, Claire. Now let me help you destroy the vipers she left behind."

Within five minutes, the blast doors hissed open. Tristan’s mercenaries leveled their weapons, but Tristan stepped out first, his voice slicing through the cold air like a razor: "Stand down. Every single one of you works for Claire Sterling now. Break out the tactical escorts. We're going to the boardroom."
