Chapter 68 - The Fall of the Patriarch

As federal agents loaded Lord William and his captured mercenaries into armored transport vans, Miller walked over to David and me, handing us two thick dossiers stamped with federal seal emblems.

"The federal court has issued an emergency administrative decree," Miller explained, gesturing toward the documents. "Under the Foreign Assets Control act, all domestic assets of the Sterling Maritime Group have been placed under protective receivership. However, because Arthur Vance’s legal trusts were structured as sovereign defensive counter-claims, Vance Logistics has been granted full immunity and total autonomy."

"And the international claims?" I asked, looking through the legal releases. "What about the Admiralty lawsuits filed in London?"

Miller pulled out a signed facsimile from the British High Court. "Lord William’s board of directors deposed him an hour ago. The moment Sarah’s broadcast hit the European exchange, the institutional shareholders exercised their emergency succession protocols. Under the Sterling charter's bloodline clause... David is now formally recognized as the legal primary trustee of the entire maritime trust."

David froze, staring at the paper. "I told them I didn't want their crown."

"You don't have to wear it, David," Miller said quietly. "As primary trustee, you have the unilateral power to dissolve the syndicate, sell off the shadow fleets, and transfer all legitimate shipping assets directly into Vance Logistics. You don't have to be a Sterling. You just have to be the man who dismantles them."

David looked at me, a deep sense of relief washing over his battered, exhausted face. For the first time since that terrible night at his wedding—when Eleanor had pulled a concealed blade and shattered our world—the nightmare was finally receding.

The brother I fought for, bled for, and protected was safe. The Vance name was cleared, our legacy preserved, and our family business had become an untouchable global force.

We stood together on the riverbank, watching the flashing sirens fade into the Nashville dawn, feeling the warmth of the first morning sun breaking over the Cumberland.
