Chapter 20 - The Sirens at the Gate

Just as David reached down to lift the steel box, the emergency alarms throughout the entire 4th Avenue facility began to wail in unison.

A blaring, piercing siren echoed down the elevator shaft, accompanied by the flashing red strobe of the terminal’s security lockdown.

*ALERT: PERIMETER BREACH — SECTOR NORTH GATE.*

*FIRE ALARM TRIGGERED: MAIN ROTUNDA.*

"Sarah! David!" Frank’s voice crackled frantically over David’s handheld radio, overwhelmed by the sound of shouting and shattering glass. "We’ve got multiple blacked-out SUVs ramming the main security barricades! They cut the power to the upper lights! And Marcus just reported—Leo was in the private study, but two men in tactical gear just forced the side entrance!"

My blood ran ice cold.

The documents, the fortune, the empire—none of it meant anything compared to the life of my boy.

"Leo!" I screamed, dropping the parchment as adrenaline surged through my veins like fire.

David slammed his hand against the emergency elevator recall, his eyes dark with lethal resolve, his pistol already drawn from his shoulder holster. "Frank! Seal the rotunda doors! We are coming up right now!"

Before the elevator doors could close, the overhead lights flickered violently and died, plunging the vault into pitch-black darkness. From the top of the shaft, the distinct, chilling sound of heavy tactical boots descended rapidly down the iron emergency stairs.

A voice echoed through the metal grating above us—cold, cultured, and devoid of mercy.

"Hand over the box, Sarah," the voice hissed from the shadows. "Or your son won't make it to his tenth birthday."
