Chapter 47 - The Ultimatum at Midnight

Victor’s hologram flickered slightly against the wall screens as the encrypted signal bounced between multiple offshore relays. "The Sovereign Consortium isn't just a corporate syndicate, Eleanor; it's the invisible foundation upon which modern global commerce rests," Victor continued, his tone shifting from amused to chillingly pragmatic. "You think you’ve won by seizing Marcus’s assets and locking him away, but you’ve merely triggered a safety protocol that automatically transfers total control of your mother's newly formed philanthropic trusts directly to my holding company." Adrien stepped forward, his expression hardening into stone as he reached for the master terminal to trace the signal's origin. "Don't bother tracing it, Adrien," Victor warned with a soft laugh. "The IP address you're chasing is bouncing from a satellite orbiting three hundred miles above your head. You have until midnight to sign over operational control of the Geneva trust, or every medical research facility and educational endowment bearing your mother's name will have its funding abruptly revoked overnight." The screen abruptly went black, plunging the war room into a tense, suffocating silence. Adrien looked at me, his eyes burning with controlled fury. "It's a bluff," he said firmly, though the tension in his shoulders betrayed the gravity of Victor's threat. "If he had the legal standing to seize the trusts, he wouldn't be begging us to sign; he would have already executed the transfer." I walked slowly back to the central console, staring at the blank monitor where Victor’s face had just been. "It’s not a bluff," I whispered, realizing the horrifying truth behind my mother's final ledger. "The trust contains a contingency clause—if the primary trustee fails to authorize a security audit within forty-eight hours of activation, the assets automatically revert to the founding architect... Victor Sterling."
