Chapter 46 - The Phantom in the Penthouse

Before the digital echoes of our counter-attack could even settle across the global banking networks, the secure communication line on our master terminal blinked with an incoming, unencrypted video feed from Zurich. Adrien froze for a fraction of a second before hitting the accept button, projecting a live, high-definition image onto the central wall screen. The camera panned across a luxurious, minimalist penthouse overlooking the snow-capped Swiss Alps, where a lone figure sat in a leather armchair, swirling a glass of amber whiskey in the dim evening light. It wasn’t Marcus, nor was it one of his usual corporate puppets; it was Victor Sterling—the reclusive billionaire financier who had supposedly vanished from the global stage a decade ago. Victor looked up at the camera, a thin, ironic smile playing across his weathered lips as he took a slow sip of his drink. "Impressive, Eleanor," Victor’s voice echoed smoothly through the war room speakers, carrying an eerie, unsettling calmness. "You dismantled Marcus’s empire like a seasoned chess player, but you seem to forget that Marcus was merely a pawn in a much larger, global game." I stepped into the field of the camera, my eyes locking onto his with unblinking defiance. "If you’re waiting for me to negotiate, Victor, you’ve miscalculated just like the rest of them," I replied coldly. Victor chuckled, setting his glass down with a sharp *clink* on the glass table. "I’m not here to negotiate, my dear. I’m here to offer you an invitation to the table—or a warning of what happens when you try to burn the entire house down."
