Chapter 58 - The Boardroom Broadcast

By six in the morning, the executive conference room on the sixty-fourth floor of the Sterling Tower looked like a war room.

Federal investigators, municipal structural engineers, and forensic accountants had taken over the space. The mahogany table, once the place where Arthur carved up city contracts with ruthless precision, was covered in Julian Vance’s waterlogged ledgers, engineering stress charts, and legal indictments.

News helicopters circled the exterior glass facade like vultures. Down below, Marina Bay’s central promenade had been completely cordoned off by national guardsmen, halting all construction on the new towers.

I stood before the massive panoramic window, holding a hot paper cup of black coffee, watching the dawn light paint the skyline in strokes of cold amber.

Victoria walked in, holding a freshly printed press statement. Her shoulder was wrapped in a medical sling, but her face carried a quiet, fierce satisfaction.

"Arthur’s legal counsel tried to file an emergency gag order at dawn," she said, leaning against the glass. "The federal judge laughed them out of chambers. Julian’s audio recordings are already entered into the public docket. The consortium pulled out thirty minutes ago. The stock is in freefall."

"What about the structural integrity of Pier 12?" I asked, turning toward her.

"The engineering team confirmed Julian’s calculations," Victoria answered solemnly. "If we hadn't stopped the construction today, the added weight of the commercial hotel would have collapsed the subterranean pylons within eight months. You didn't just expose a fraud, Ava. You saved thousands of lives."

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Richard stepped inside, accompanied by the chief federal prosecutor. He looked exhausted, his tie loose, the bruises from the previous night dark along his jawline. He carried an official dossier stamped by the Department of Justice.

"Arthur has officially been remanded without bail," Richard said, stopping a respectful distance from me. "And Eleanor Thorne has signed a full confession implicating the remaining members of the Founders Circle. Ava... the city council has issued an emergency mandate."

He handed me the dossier.

I opened it. On the first page was a mayoral decree appointing *The Vance-Sterling Architectural Trust* as the sole administrative authority over the stabilization and reconstruction of the entire harbor basin.

At the bottom of the page was a single blank signature line beneath the title: *Lead Architect and Managing Director.*

"They want you to rebuild it," Richard said, his voice thick with unmasked admiration. "The right way this time."
