Chapter 40 - The Final Blueprint

A courier in an unmarked navy uniform stood at the entrance holding a slim, heavy wooden box bound with black steel bands.

"Delivery for Ms. Ava Sterling," the courier said briskly. "Requires biometric confirmation."

I exchanged a puzzled look with my father. Arthur set down his pencil, his expression instantly tightening with familiar caution.

"Who sent this?" I asked, stepping up to the reception counter and pressing my thumb against the digital scanner the courier held out.

"Private dispatch from Zurich," the man replied, handing over the heavy box before turning and walking swiftly out of the building.

Arthur joined me at the counter. The box was made of aged cedar, smooth and cold to the touch. On the polished lid, there was no address, no return stamp—only a deeply engraved insignia: an ouroboros, a serpent eating its own tail, encircling a pair of crossed drafting compasses.

Arthur gasped, stepping back so sharply his cane clattered against the floor.

"Dad?" I turned to him, alarm spiking through my chest. "What is it? What does that symbol mean?"

"The Drake Syndicate didn't hire Marcus Vance," Arthur whispered, his voice trembling with an old, deep terror I had never heard in him before. "Marcus Vance was just their foot soldier. That mark... that belongs to the Founders' Circle. The families who owned the land grants before this city was even chartered."

With trembling fingers, I broke the steel bands and lifted the cedar lid.

Inside, resting on black velvet, was not a bomb or a threat. It was a single, pristine sheet of heavy vellum blueprint paper, drawn with glowing silver ink.

At the bottom right corner was a signature box.

The primary architect listed on the plan was Arthur Sterling.

The secondary architect was Ava Sterling.

And the project title, written in cold, sharp calligraphy, read: *Phase Two: The Submerged Foundations of Marina Bay — Scheduled Detonation at Midnight.*

Beneath the blueprint lay a handwritten note in elegant, antique script:

*"You thought the war ended with Julian Vance, little architect. But Julian only kept you safe from us. Now that you have taken the helm, the foundation belongs to the Circle. Meet us at the dry docks before the clock strikes twelve, or watch the entire harbor you built crumble into the sea."*

I stared at the silver blueprint, my blood turning to liquid ice, as the grandfather clock in the corner struck eleven.
