Chapter 47 - The Architect’s Counterstrike

Judge Harrison reviewed the documents for ten agonizing minutes. The only sound in the packed courtroom was the rustle of vellum and the frantic whispering between the Circle’s lawyers.
Finally, the judge looked up over his spectacles. "The court finds that the historical covenants invoked by the defense are tainted by fraudulent execution and criminal coercion. The motion to seize Marina Bay is denied with prejudice. Furthermore, I am ordering an immediate freeze on all domestic assets belonging to the Founders' Circle trust pending federal racketeering indictments."
The gavel came down with a crack that sounded like a gunshot.
Chaos erupted in the gallery. Reporters surged toward the barrier, cameras flashing relentlessly. Vance Montgomery slumped into his chair, staring into the abyss of his clients' financial annihilation.
As the bailiffs cleared a path for me through the press, I didn't stop to give interviews. I walked past the microphones, past the flashing lights, straight to the private corridor where Arthur waited.
He looked at me, his eyes shining with pride, but there was an unsettling exhaustion in his posture. He leaned heavily against the marble wall, his hand pressed against his chest.
"Ava," he murmured, his breath coming shallow and ragged. "You did it. You broke the curse."
"We did it, Dad," I said, reaching out to support him. "Now we can finally rebuild the firm the way you always dreamed."
Arthur smiled weakly, but his fingers slipped from my shoulder. "There’s one more thing... you need to know. Julian didn't just leave you the money."
"Dad?" Panic flared in my chest as his knees buckled slightly. "Clara, call the paramedics!"
"No, listen to me," Arthur insisted, his voice dropping to a desperate whisper as he gripped my lapel. "Julian’s illness... he found out the Circle had poisoned the ground water at the old naval yard forty years ago. That's why your mother died of leukemia, Ava. That's why Julian fought them until his last breath. The real vault isn't in Zurich. It’s underneath our old family house. In the cellar behind the brick kiln."

Before I could ask what was in the cellar, two paramedics burst through the double doors, pushing a gurney toward us.
