Chapter 46 - Ghosts in the High Court

By 8:30 AM, the marble steps of the State Supreme Court were swarming with reporters, camera crews, and private security details.

The media frenzy was unprecedented. The headlines screamed: *FOUNDERS' SYNDICATE SABOTAGE AT MARINA BAY* and *BILLION-DOLLAR TAKEOVER BATTLE AT DAWN.*

I walked up the stone steps in a crisp black wool suit, flanked by our chief legal counsel and two forensic accountants. For eight years, the media had painted me as the quiet, passive wife who lived in the shadow of Julian Vance’s architectural brilliance. Today, the world was seeing the architect who held the city's future in her hands.

Inside Courtroom 302, the remaining representatives of the Founders’ Circle were gathered—three elderly patriarchs of the city’s oldest banking families, flanked by a phalanx of corporate attorneys in bespoke pinstripes.

Judge Harrison, a veteran jurist known for his ironclad adherence to corporate law, banged his gavel. "We are here on an emergency motion filed by the Sterling-Vance Trust to freeze the hostile liquidation of Marina Bay development bonds."

The lead attorney for the Founders, an arrogant man named Vance Montgomery, stood with a sneer. "Your Honor, the covenants signed by Arthur Sterling thirty years ago clearly state that if the development faces criminal insolvency or structural compromise, management reverts instantly to the original land grant trustees. Mrs. Vance has no standing to inject unverified foreign capital to block this transfer."

"The capital is verified," I spoke, standing without waiting for my attorney to invite me.

"Mrs. Vance, you will address the court through counsel," the judge warned gently.

"With respect, Your Honor, the contracts in question bear my forged signature," I said, walking to the podium and placing the cedar box's vellum blueprint before the bench. "This document was drafted to blackmail my father. But more importantly, the funds we are deploying this morning do not come from foreign lenders. They come from the restitution account Julian Vance established using the embezzled dividends of the Founders' own holding companies."

A low murmur rippled through the courtroom. Vance Montgomery’s face drained of color.

"Here are the forensic audits," my chief counsel announced, dumping six binders of banking records onto the defense table. "Every dollar the Circle attempted to siphon out of public harbor funds has been repatriated. By nine-fifteen this morning, Mrs. Vance acquired fifty-two percent of the outstanding municipal bonds. She is no longer just the architect of Marina Bay, Your Honor. She is the majority owner of the harbor."
