Chapter 37 - The Boardroom Showdown

Dawn broke over the harbor in streaks of slate gray and fiery amber.

The Municipal Oversight Chamber on the forty-second floor of the City Civic Tower was packed with journalists, industry moguls, and city planners. The Saint-Germain Harbor Expansion was the largest public-private partnership in the state’s history, and the Vance Corporation was poised to officially claim the development rights at the eight o'clock session.

At the head of the long oak table sat the city council directors and the regulatory commissioners. In the front row of the gallery sat Julian Vance, flanked by four senior corporate attorneys and a stern, scarred man in an unmarked gray suit whose cold gaze scanned every entrance—a clear operative of the Drake Syndicate.

At precisely 7:59 AM, the double mahogany doors at the back of the chamber swung open.

The murmur in the room died instantly.

I walked down the central aisle in an ivory tailored suit, my head held high, holding a heavy leather portfolio in my left hand. And walking beside me, leaning steadily on his ebony cane, was Arthur Sterling.

A collective gasp swept through the gallery. An older commissioner in the third row literally dropped his glasses, staring as if an ancient king had risen from the grave.

"Arthur... Sterling?" the chief commissioner stammered, gripping the edge of the podium. "That is... impossible."

"Reports of my demise were grossly overstated, Commissioner Davies," Arthur said, his voice carrying effortlessly across the vaulted ceiling. "And orchestrated by Marcus Vance to conceal the fraudulent transfer of the Saint-Germain deep-water engineering patents."

Julian closed his eyes, slumping back into his leather chair as if he had been shot. The corporate attorneys beside him frantically began shuffling through their folders, but their hands were trembling.

I stepped up to the public podium and placed the brass cylinder directly onto the clerk's desk.

"This is the master cryptographic key to the original harbor geological surveys," I announced, my voice steady, clear, and ringing with undeniable authority. "Registered under the Sterling Estate. And as the sole legitimate inheritor and licensed principal architect of Sterling & Partners, I formally revoke the Vance Corporation's authority to build on these coordinates."
