Chapter 51 - Fracture Point

Marcus stared down at the silver whistle lying in the puddle of his own blood, his expression shattering from rage to absolute disbelief.
Above them, the automated voice screamed through the sirens: *30 SECONDS TO LAUNCH.*
Dylan turned to the primary crane terminal. He slammed his fist onto the emergency abort lever, entering the manual shutdown override code Mia had transmitted to his visor. The heavy gears ground against each other with a violent shriek of twisting metal.
Down below, the clamps holding the three nuclear torpedoes locked securely back into their seismic cradles. The countdown froze at *00:14*.
"Override confirmed!" Ramirez’s voice cheered from the lower level. "The warheads are secured, Dylan! We stopped the launch!"
Dylan let out a ragged breath, turning back to Marcus, unholstering a pair of flex-cuffs from his combat vest. "It's over, Marcus. Get up. You're going back to face judgment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice."
Marcus slowly pushed himself up against the railing. Blood dripped steadily from his chin, but his lips curved into a slow, terrifying, broken grin.
"You really thought Aegis Vanguard would let you take this facility intact?" Marcus whispered, his voice trembling with dark amusement. "They never trusted me, Dylan. And I never trusted them."
Marcus reached into his tactical vest pocket and pulled out a small, palm-sized transmitter—a deadman's trigger with a flashing red LED.
Dylan's eyes widened. "Marcus, don't—"
"If I go to Leavenworth, Aegis will silence me within an hour," Marcus spat. "I'm not dying in a concrete cell. If I go down, the Vance name burns this entire sector to the seabed!"
Marcus squeezed the detonator.
A series of muffled, catastrophic explosions reverberated throughout the foundations of the underwater fortress. The entire facility violently shuddered, throwing Dylan against the catwalk railing. Deep below, the support pylons holding *Project Poseidon* to the continental shelf shattered under thousands of pounds of high explosives.

Overhead, the thick glass viewports of the dome began to fissure. Long, spiderweb cracks shot across the reinforced quartz, spraying high-pressure jets of icy seawater into the chamber.
"Dylan!" Mia’s terrified voice screamed through the coms. "The structural integrity of Sector Seven is failing! The facility is imploding! You have two minutes before the ocean crushes everything!"
