Chapter 10 - The Fall of the CEO

Arthur Sterling’s jaw hung open. The room around him seemed to dissolve into static. The allies he had counted on to shield him quickly turned off their cameras or looked away in disgust.
"I gave you the benefit of the doubt for five years, Arthur," Elena continued, her eyes piercing through the lens. "My father believed in your administrative capabilities. But you mistook his kindness for weakness, and you mistook my absence from daily operations as ignorance. You built a fiefdom of abuse, fear, and theft inside this company, and you allowed sycophants like Victoria Vance to treat our passengers like dirt beneath their feet."
"Elena... please," Arthur whispered, his voice cracking completely on the open line. "Think of the company. Think of the stock price. If this gets out to the SEC, we will be destroyed!"
"We won't be destroyed, Arthur," Elena said with supreme confidence. "Because the rot stops tonight. The healing begins tomorrow."
Elena raised her right hand. "I move for an immediate vote of no confidence and the summary termination of Arthur Sterling as Chief Executive Officer of Apex Air for gross breach of fiduciary duty and criminal malfeasance, without severance, golden parachute, or equity vesting."
"Seconded," boomed the voice of Gordon Hayes, the senior-most independent director.
"All in favor, raise your hands," Elena instructed.
One by one, eleven hands shot up on the screen. Even the four board members Arthur thought he owned raised their hands, terrified of being implicated in the federal probe.
"The motion carries unanimously," Elena declared. "Arthur Sterling, your terminal access is revoked. Security is already outside your penthouse door to collect company laptops and mobile devices. You are done."
