Chapter 25 - The Dawn Counter-Attack

The digital clock on my desk flashed 5:45 AM. The sky outside was shifting from a bruised purple to a pale, clinical grey, signaling the dawn of a day that was destined to rewrite the social and financial hierarchy of New York City.

Julian had spent the entire night at his command station—three laptops connected to encrypted servers, tapping into corporate registries, Swiss banking logs, and state court dockets. His fingers danced across the keyboards with blinding speed, pulling together a dossier that could bring down half the financial district if deployed correctly.

"The trap is fully sprung," Julian said, not looking up from his screens. "Vance and Victoria pushed through that midnight injunction using Judge Harrison's corrupted signature. But because they officially filed the claim under the Zurich corporate entity, federal tax authorities have automatically flagged the transaction as a multi-jurisdictional asset transfer. The moment the market opens at 9:00 AM, the IRS and the SEC are going to freeze every account associated with Vance Global Logistics."

I took a sip of black coffee, feeling a cold, calm focus settle over me. The anxiety that had gripped my chest hours ago had completely vanished, replaced by the calculating, unyielding resolve of a true Prescott heir—the kind of heir Grandfather Henry had always wanted me to be.

"And what about the emergency board vote at my clinic?" I asked, walking over to grab my tailored navy blazer from the back of the chair.

"Handled," Julian smirked, turning the screen toward me to display a signed legal affidavit. "We acquired the majority voting proxies from three of the clinic's founding physicians last night while Vance and Victoria were celebrating their supposed victory. Legally, they don't have the votes to oust you. In fact, when they walk into the boardroom at 9:00 AM expecting to strip your directorship, they're going to find themselves facing an immediate internal ethics investigation for corporate tampering."

"Good," I said, slipping my arms into the blazer and buttoning it with sharp, precise movements. "Let's go pay them a visit."

By 8:30 AM, Julian's matte-black SUV was navigating the bustling, gridlocked streets of downtown Manhattan, heading straight for the sleek, glass-paneled headquarters of the Downtown Medical Clinic. The morning rush hour was in full swing, streams of hurried commuters rushing past towering skyscrapers completely unaware of the seismic financial earthquake about to hit the city's elite.

As we pulled up to the curb in front of the clinic, I saw them. Victoria and Alistair Vance were standing near the grand marble entrance, surrounded by two reporters from the *New York Financial Chronicle* whom Victoria had obviously tipped off to capture her grand, triumphant return to power.

Victoria was draped in a brand-new white designer coat, a triumphant, sickeningly sweet smile plastered across her face as she spoke to the journalists, gesturing dramatically toward the entrance doors as if she were already queen of the city.

Julian killed the engine, turned to me, and opened his door. "Ready to watch the empire crumble?"

"Let's end this," I said, stepping out of the car into the cool morning air.
