Chapter 17 - Blooms in the Greenhouse

The grand conservatory at the botanical gardens was warm, humid, and filled with the lush, vibrant scent of blooming orchids and tropical ferns. Sunlight filtered softly through the massive glass dome overhead, casting dappled patterns across the stone pathways.
I walked slowly down the central aisle, admiring the brilliant displays of crimson and white flowers, until I spotted a familiar tall, broad-shouldered figure standing near the central fountain. Julian was dressed in a tailored charcoal suit, his hands tucked casually into his pockets as he waited for me.
When he heard my footsteps on the stone path, he turned around. A soft, genuine smile broke across his striking face—the kind of smile he reserved only for me, completely stripped of the corporate armor he wore in the boardroom.
"You made it," Julian said as I walked up to him, his arms opening naturally to pull me close against his chest. I rested my head against his shoulder, inhaling the clean, familiar scent of his cologne blended with the fresh earth of the greenhouse.
"You summoned me away from a very peaceful morning of watching the news," I teased lightly, pulling back just enough to look into his deep, intelligent eyes. "What is this grand surprise?"
Julian didn't answer with words. Instead, he reached into his inner suit jacket pocket and pulled out a small, flat leather box. My breath caught slightly in my throat.
He didn't drop to one knee in a dramatic, cliché fashion. Instead, holding my gaze with absolute sincerity and unwavering devotion, he gently opened the box. Inside rested a vintage platinum ring encrusted with a magnificent, deep blue sapphire surrounded by a delicate halo of brilliant-cut diamonds—a ring that belonged to his family’s heritage, symbolizing a partnership built not on obligation or greed, but on absolute equality, mutual respect, and unshakeable love.
"We dismantled an empire of lies, Myriam," Julian said, his voice low, steady, and filled with a quiet emotion that made my heart race. "We rebuilt the foundation from the ground up, brick by brick, truth by truth. I don't want to just be your partner in business or strategy anymore. I want to be your partner for the rest of our lives."

I stared at the sapphire ring, feeling a profound wave of warmth and completeness wash over my soul. Every struggle, every betrayal, every sleepless night of corporate warfare had led me precisely to this moment, under the warm glass dome of the greenhouse, standing beside a man who loved me as an absolute equal.
"Yes," I whispered, smiling as a tear of pure happiness slipped down my cheek. "Yes, Julian, absolutely."
