Chapter 34 - The Zurich Gambit

We made the run from Naples back to the Amalfi coast aboard a twin-engine tactical chopper pushed past its redline limits. Every second felt like an eternity carved into our flesh. Elena sat across from me in the roaring cabin, her hands checking the actions on an assault rifle, her face pale as marble, her eyes burning with pure maternal fury.

When we touched down on the villa’s lawn, the smell of burning electronics and spent brass hung heavy in the air.

Three enemy mercenaries lay neutralized on the grand staircase. Marcus was leaning against the reinforced door of the underground safe room, clutching a blood-soaked shoulder, a smoking shotgun resting against his thigh.

"Marcus!" Elena dropped to her knees beside him.

"She’s safe, ma'am," Marcus choked out, a defiant grin splitting his blood-streaked face. "They brought thermal lances... but they didn't know the Vance vault doors are lined with tungsten carbide. They couldn't burn through before our backup arrived."

I triggered the biometric lock. The heavy steel door hissed open, and Lily came flying out, tears streaking her face, burying herself directly into Elena’s arms.

"Mommy! Daddy!" Lily sobbed, clinging to Elena’s neck. "The lights made loud noises!"

"I have you, baby. You're safe. Mommy has you," Elena murmured, weeping softly as she kissed Lily's forehead, rocking her back and forth on the blood-spattered marble floor.

I examined the body of the lead infiltrator lying near the entrance. I tore off his balaclava, revealing a nondescript face, but around his neck hung an electronic keycard stamped with a stylized Swiss bank logo: *Helvetia Private Trust, Zurich. Vault 0-Zero.*

"They weren't trying to kidnap her," I said coldly, inspecting the equipment the mercenaries left behind. "They brought a mobile medical scanner. They were trying to scan Lily’s microchip right through the safe room wall."

Elena stood up, holding Lily securely on her hip. The tears on her face had vanished, replaced by an expression of pure, unadulterated resolve. "If Lily’s chip holds the key to their entire empire, they will never stop coming for her. Not in Italy, not in Boston, nowhere."

"Then we take the fight to their vault," I replied, standing tall beside my family. "Zurich is where their money sleeps. We cut the serpent's head off at the bank."

Within six hours, Lily was relocated under maximum covert escort to an undisclosed mountain redoubt in the Swiss Alps guarded by an entire private military company loyal exclusively to the Vance family.

Meanwhile, Elena and I assumed the identities of high-net-worth investors and boarded a private jet directly into Zurich International.

We didn't come to negotiate. We came to seize the root of the conspiracy.
