Chapter 10 - A New Balance

The spring thaw brought blooming tulips to the front garden of the Evanston home, their bright red and yellow petals contrasting sharply against the lush green grass.
On the wraparound porch, Claire Bennett sat in a comfortable rocking chair, the morning sun warming her face as a gentle breeze rustled the oak trees.
Resting peacefully in her arms was baby Lily, wrapped tightly in a pale pink blanket. Her tiny chest rose and fell in steady, rhythmic breaths, her dark eyelashes fluttering against soft, rosy cheeks.
"She has your eyes, you know," Susan said, walking out onto the porch with two mugs of steaming coffee, handing one to Claire before settling into the rocking chair beside her.
Claire looked down at her daughter, a profound, overwhelming wave of love washing over her soul. Calder Rowe was a distant memory. Mason was serving his federal sentence behind gray walls. The corporate world, with all its ruthless ambition and deceit, felt light-years away.
"She has her own path," Claire smiled softly, gently brushing a stray curl from Lily’s forehead. "And her own numbers to write."
From down the street, the cheerful laughter of neighborhood children echoed in the morning air. A robin landed briefly on the porch railing before taking flight toward the sparkling blue expanse of Lake Michigan just blocks away.

The books were closed. The audit was complete. And her life was finally, perfectly balanced.
