Chapter 34 - The Geneva Ledger

Two hours later, flanked by an armored motorcade of four Mercedes sedans, we arrived at the Rue du Rhône in Geneva—the beating financial heart of private European banking.

We pulled up to the limestone façade of *Banque Privée de Vaud*, an institution older than the United States itself. Waiting on the granite steps was the bank’s managing director, Herr Klaus Weber, bowing with reverent deference as Richard and I stepped out.

"Monsieur Vance. Mademoiselle Vance," Weber greeted us in low, measured tones. "The private subterranean vault has been prepared according to the 1998 covenant."

We descended three levels beneath the streets of Geneva, through reinforced steel blast doors and biometric airlocks, into a room lined with deep mahogany walls and solid gold-inlaid security deposit lockers.

In the center of the room sat a massive titanium chest.

"To unlock the global charter," Weber explained, placing his white-gloved hands on the console, "we require two authentications. The physical platinum master key held by the founder, and the biometric DNA imprint of the sole designated heir."

Richard handed me the platinum key. "Turn it, Lauren."

I inserted the key into the heavy dual-cylinder mechanism. It turned with a heavy, satisfying mechanical clunk. Then, I pressed my right thumb against the optical scanner.

The console chimed in a soft, melodic chord. The heavy seals disengaged with a hiss of pressurized nitrogen.

The lid swung open.

Inside lay neither gold bullion nor stacks of bearer bonds. Inside were three velvet-lined leather binders containing original share certificates for forty percent of the trans-continental logistics networks spanning Rotterdam, Singapore, and New York. Alongside them were the signed confessions, offshore bank routing numbers, and encrypted communications between Arthur Montgomery, Eleanor Vance, and twelve prominent high-court judges in the state of Washington.

The total market value of the sovereign trust sat illuminated on the digital ledger display beside the binders:

**$4,280,000,000.00 USD.**

I stood frozen, staring at the screen. "Four point two billion..."

"Eleanor thought she was ruining you over a one-point-two-million-dollar house," Richard said, his voice ringing with absolute cold authority. "She treated you like a beggar at her banquet, while in reality, you were the queen of the entire empire. And now, my darling, we sign the revocation of their immunity."
