Chapter 15 - The Counter-Strike

At 1:00 PM that afternoon, while the protesters outside my gate were ordering pizza and racking up views on their live streams, my public response went live across every major regional platform.

I didn't post an emotional rant. I posted a four-part video dossier titled: *“Receipts: The Truth About Eleanor and Nathan Vance.”*

Part One opened with certified medical records from the UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center, dated three weeks prior, proving Grandma Evelyn scored a perfect 30/30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Evelyn herself appeared on camera, sitting upright in her sunlit living room at Whispering Pines, her eyes razor-sharp.

"My daughter Eleanor has not paid for a single prescription, a single doctor's visit, or a single grocery delivery for me in twenty-two years," Evelyn stated with blistering clarity. "Lauren has paid every penny out of her own earnings. Nathan stole nearly three hundred thousand dollars from my life savings to finance sports cars and luxury vacations. Eleanor aided him. Lauren saved me from bankruptcy. Eleanor is not a victim; she is an unrepentant parasite."

Part Two showed the high-definition security footage from Vance & Sterling’s boardroom: Nathan breaking down, admitting to forging Grandma Evelyn's signatures on the Fourth Avenue property deeds, and signing the voluntary restitution agreement.

Part Three showed Eleanor’s bank statements—subpoenaed during the probate audit—revealing that over the past five years, Eleanor had diverted over one hundred and eighty thousand dollars of family trust funds directly into high-stakes online gambling portals and boutique day spas in Scottsdale.

Part Four was the death blow: the unedited voice recording from my porch three nights prior, where Eleanor explicitly stated: *"We need this house... Nathan needs to look like an equal partner! Execute a temporary quitclaim deed to Nathan for six months until Chloe's family releases the trust fund!"* followed by Nathan screaming threats to slander me if I didn't comply.

Within ninety minutes, the internet flipped like a tidal wave.

The viral video Eleanor posted was systematically dismantled in the comments. Users began linking my dossier directly into Eleanor’s comment section. The local news station, King 5, which had sent a van to my neighborhood, immediately changed the angle of their broadcast from "Local Woman Accused of Elder Abuse" to "Viral Smear Campaign Backfires on Mother After Ironclad Financial Fraud Exposed."

By 3:30 PM, the protesters outside my driveway looked at their phones, saw the counter-strike video, lowered their cardboard signs in embarrassment, and quietly dispersed before the police arrived.

Then, Richard Vance delivered the legal hammer.

At 4:45 PM, a King County process server served Eleanor Vance at her rented condo with an emergency Cease and Desist order, a five-million-dollar defamation lawsuit, and a notice that the King County Prosecutor's Office had officially opened a criminal inquiry into real estate fraud and extortion based on the recorded threats.

When Eleanor opened the door to the process server, two local news cameras were already waiting on the sidewalk. Her panicked, makeup-smeared face was broadcast live on the five o'clock news.
