Chapter 35 - Bloodline Collateral

Rain lashed against the white balustrade of the terrace. Lightning fractured the midnight sky over the Atlantic, illuminating Sloane as she crawled backward against the stone railing, her shoulder gushing blood, her face twisted in agony and terror.

"Don't do it, Elena!" Sloane gasped, clutching her wound. "If you kill me, the Sterling Syndicate will release the dead-man switch! Your family's old foundation—your father's legacy—it's tied to the shell accounts I used! I'll take your name down with the Vance empire!"

I stopped two feet from her, lowering my gun slightly, a cold smile touching my lips.

"Do you really think I didn't know about my father's foundation?" I asked softly over the roar of the surf below. "Why do you think I let you transfer those shares to Sterling in the first place?"

Sloane froze, her eyes widening in sheer horror. "What... what did you do?"

"Those shell corporations weren't Vance accounts, Sloane," I explained, leaning down so she could hear every syllable clearly. "They were honeypots set up by the Department of Justice and the International Anti-Fraud Division five years ago. Julian was too blind to see his mother was being investigated. And you... you were so greedy, you walked straight into a sovereign asset seizure."

Sloane began to hyperventilate. "No... no, that's impossible. The Cayman routing numbers..."

"Were redirected through my private server in San Juan the moment I took the Sterling Protocol offline," I finished. "Every single dollar you moved isn't in a Sterling vault. It’s sitting in an escrow account under federal surveillance, signed with your digital biometric signature."

A thunderous crack echoed across the island, but it wasn't lightning.

Down at the private harbor, the wailing siren of heavy naval craft tore through the storm.

High-intensity floodlights suddenly cut through the driving rain from the ocean, painting the cliffs and the terrace in blinding white light. A megaphone boomed from a cutter anchored just beyond the breakwater:

*"This is the United States Coast Guard and Federal Maritime Enforcement. Vance Cay is under federal containment. All occupants, lay down your weapons and prepare to be boarded!"*

Sloane slumped against the balustrade, all the venom draining out of her, replaced by the hollow despair of an absolute defeat.

Behind me, Julian dragged himself out onto the terrace, his face bloody, his eyes wide as he saw the federal cutters surrounding the island.

"Elena..." he cried out, his voice cracking like broken glass. "What have you done? The feds... they'll take the house! They'll take Vance Cay!"

"Vance Cay was bought with blood and stolen futures, Julian," I said without looking back. "It's time the debt was paid."
