Chapter 16 - The Ambush in Daylight

We returned to Vance Cay at dawn to find the game had escalated into open war.
Victoria’s superyacht was no longer idling outside the reef; it had moved directly into the commercial channel, deliberately blocking the inbound cargo barges carrying critical construction supplies. Above the island, two unauthorized commercial news drones hovered like mechanical vultures, broadcasting live feeds of the standoff to international business media.
On CNBC, the ticker flashed continuously: *VANCE ENTERPRISES PATRIARCH CHALLENGES RUNAWAY HEIRESS OVER ISLAND SEIZURE.*
Victoria stood on the upper deck of her yacht, holding a wireless megaphone that projected her voice across the tranquil lagoon.
"Olivia!" her voice boomed, amplified by the ship’s marine audio system. "Step down and face arbitration! You have held my family’s heritage hostage long enough! The press is watching. The board is watching. Surrender the island or be dragged through federal court as an illegitimate usurper!"
Kaelen walked up beside me, his jaw set, a combat shotgun slung across his tactical vest. "Say the word, ma'am, and I’ll have the port authority tow that floating coffin into international waters."
"No, Kaelen," I said smoothly, picking up a pair of binoculars to watch Victoria's theatrical performance. "She wants a spectacle. She brought the press because she thinks public shame was what made me retreat during my marriage."
I turned to Julian. "Did the tech team crack the encrypted drive from San Juan?"
"Every single byte," Julian smiled, and for the first time in months, it was a predator’s smile. "Bank transfer logs, Swiss routing numbers, audio recordings of Victoria authorizing illicit payments through offshore maritime shell companies, and the complete environmental falsification reports from 1994."
"Patch our satellite transmitter into the press drones’ broadcast frequencies," I commanded. "If Victoria wants an audience, we are going to give her a global premiere."

"What about Richard?" Julian asked.
"Bring Richard up to the main terrace," I said coldly. "It’s time for the prodigal son to meet his mother on equal terms."
