Chapter 19 - The Cleansing of Vance Cay

A week later, silence finally reclaimed the island.

The superyacht was gone, impounded in San Juan along with Victoria’s luxury assets. Victoria and Richard had both been indicted on federal racketeering, securities fraud, and environmental conspiracy charges, their bail denied due to extreme flight risk.

The media circus had moved on, leaving behind only the pristine, rhythmic crashing of waves against the newly reinforced seawalls.

I walked down the stone path toward Section 4-B, accompanied by Julian and a team of federal environmental engineers. The excavation of the hidden subterranean vault was already underway, but unlike the toxic nightmare Victoria had created, my remediation plan was turning the site into a state-of-the-art marine biology sanctuary.

"The board approved the corporate name change this morning," Julian said, handing me a freshly stamped certificate of incorporation. "Vance Enterprises is officially dissolved. As of today, the holding entity is registered as Thalassa Horizons."

I traced my fingers over the embossed golden letters. *Thalassa.* The ancient sea, wild and unmastered.

"What about Sloane?" I asked, looking out toward the shimmering reef where sea turtles swam peacefully in the shallows.

"She boarded a flight to Lisbon under a secondary passport before the federal warrants were unsealed," Julian answered. "Her tracks are completely clean. She left everything behind, Olivia. She didn't take a dime from the Vance accounts."

"She didn't need to," I murmured. "Survival was her payout."

We walked back toward the main villa, where the afternoon sun painted the white stucco walls with warm shades of amber. The scars of the hurricane were fading, replaced by polished teak, blooming bougainvillea, and the laughter of the local island staff whose jobs were now protected by permanent, unbreachable contracts.

For the first time in seven years, my chest didn't feel constricted by fear, duty, or the exhausting labor of protecting an unworthy man. I was free. Vance Cay was finally home.
