Chapter 17 - The Iron Vault of Saint-Moritz

The air inside Vault 001 was dry, cool, and preserved in nitrogen. It smelled faintly of aged paper, leather, and ozone.
As Daniel and I stepped inside, recessed lights hummed to life along the ceiling, illuminating a minimalist room that looked less like a bank vault and more like an executive study. A massive mahogany desk stood in the center, free of dust. Behind it, a single glass display case held three items: a physical ledger bound in black morocco leather, an encrypted quantum server rack the size of a briefcase, and a handwritten letter sealed with my father's familiar wax stamp.
My breath caught in my throat. I approached the desk, my fingers trembling slightly as I touched the aged parchment of the letter.
My father's handwriting, bold and deliberate, was addressed to: *Claire, my fiercest star.*
Daniel stepped up beside me, keeping a respectful distance, his eyes sweeping the server terminal. "Claire... that hardware isn't commercial. That's a dedicated cold-storage mainframe running an encrypted sovereign ledger."
I broke the wax seal and unfolded the letter. My father’s voice seemed to echo across twelve years of silence.
*Claire,*
*If you are reading this, it means Arthur Sterling has made his move, and I have lost my war with him. Do not weep for me, my darling daughter. A man who plays chess with monsters must expect to be wounded. But a father who loves his daughter plans ten moves ahead of his own grave.*
*Arthur believes Aegis Horizon was his creation. He does not know that when he began plotting to absorb Vance Global, I allowed him to construct the infrastructure. Every dollar he siphoned, every offshore shell he created to choke our company, was routed through an unlisted backdoor on the quantum server before you.*
*Aegis Horizon is not Arthur’s weapon. It is his coffin.*
*Inside this drive is the complete financial architecture of the Obsidian Trust—Arthur’s entire private wealth network, totaling forty-two billion dollars hidden across non-extradition tax havens. He used Grant to trigger the takeover because he thought you were weak, compliant, and distracted by a failing marriage.*
*Show him how wrong he was. Do not simply defend our name, Claire. Strip him down until he has nothing left but the memory of what he stole from us.*
*Fly, my daughter. Your wings were never broken.*
*Your loving father, Henry.*
A single tear spilled over my lashes, hot against the cold mountain air. I wiped it away with the back of my hand, replaced instantly by an icy, unshakeable calm.
"Daniel," I said, turning to him.
"I'm here," he answered, his gaze intense.
"Plug in the forensic terminal. How long will it take to link this mainframe to Vance Global’s New York trading floor?"
Daniel moved forward, his fingers flying across the server's optical interface. "Five minutes to establish the satellite bypass. Once linked, Claire... you won't just be stopping Sterling's short-sale against Vance stock. You'll hold the master key to his entire liquidity supply."

"Then let's not make Arthur wait," I said coldly. "He wanted to play a game. Let's show him what happens when the house cashes in."
