Chapter 7 - Reign of the Boss’s Wife

The private medical wing of Busan Asan Hospital was under lockdown.
Forty heavily armed Avanoir foot soldiers lined the corridors, their faces grim, their hands hovering over concealed weapons. Inside the operating suite, the city’s top trauma surgeons fought for six hours to extract the bullet lodged near Dante’s pulmonary artery.
In the private waiting room, Nyla stood before the floor-to-ceiling window watching the sunrise over Haeundae beach.
She had washed the blood from her face, but she had refused to change out of her clothes. She wore Dante’s oversized black trench coat over her torn, blood-stained silk robe. Her eyes were red-rimmed, but behind the exhaustion was an iron furnace of absolute, unbending power.
The doors opened. Kang Tae-oh, Dante’s secondary commander and chief enforcer, stepped inside, bowing his head respectfully.
"Madam," Tae-oh said, his voice tense. "The syndicate bosses from the northern district are gathering at the docks. They heard the Boss was shot. Rumors are spreading that he is dead. Elder Park and the Incheon cartel are already preparing to seize the container terminals at 9:00 AM."
Nyla did not turn around immediately. She watched a container ship glide across the gray horizon.
"Is Dante out of surgery?" she asked coldly.
"He survived the extraction, Madam. But he is in a medically induced coma. He won't wake for at least forty-eight hours." Tae-oh hesitated. "Without the Boss, the syndicate will fracture. The elders will not take orders from me."
Nyla slowly turned around. The look in her emerald eyes made the seasoned enforcer take an involuntary half-step back.
"They won't take orders from you, Tae-oh," Nyla said, her voice dropping into a deadly, velvet calm. "They will take them from me."
"Madam... with all respect, the cartel has never answered to a woman. They will challenge your authority."
"Let them try."
At 8:45 AM, the executive boardroom at the Busan Port Authority was in an uproar. Seven syndicate bosses were pounding the mahogany table, shouting over maps of the shipping lanes.
"Dante is finished!" Elder Park snarled, a scarred, veteran mobster. "His father’s era is over. The docks must be divided among the surviving families before the government steps in!"
"Agreed," another boss yelled. "The girl has no claim!"
*KICK.*
The double doors of the boardroom were kicked off their latch.
The entire room went dead silent.
Nyla strode into the boardroom. Behind her walked Tae-oh and four elite snipers, their automatic rifles carried at low-ready.
Nyla had transformed. She wore an immaculate, tailored charcoal-gray pinstripe suit, her hair slicked back into an uncompromising bun, diamond studs in her ears, her crimson lips painted like fresh blood. In her hand, she carried a thick leather binder.
She walked straight to the head of the table—Dante’s empty leather throne—and sat down.
"You insolent little girl," Elder Park sputtered, standing up. "Who gave you permission to sit in the Boss’s chair?"
Nyla didn't flinch. She opened the leather binder, pulled out a thick stack of documents, and tossed them into the center of the table.
"Page four, Elder Park," Nyla said, resting her chin on her steepled fingers. "Your offshore dummy corporation in Macau laundering money through the Vladivostok pipeline without Dante’s permission. Page twelve, Boss Choi: your private meetings with Han Seol-ah’s couriers to sabotage our southern supply lines."
The bosses stared at the documents, their faces turning from rage to absolute, ash-white horror.
"My husband is resting," Nyla continued, her voice slicing through the room like a razor through silk. "And while he rests, every breath you take in this city requires my signature. If anyone in this room takes one step toward the shipping terminals today, I will leak these files to the International Maritime Police and have Tae-oh execute your lieutenants before lunch."
She leaned forward, her emerald eyes boring into Elder Park’s soul.
"Does anyone else wish to challenge the Boss’s chair?"
No one spoke. Not a single man breathed.
May you like
Elder Park slowly lowered his head. "We... we await your orders, Madam Avanoir."
