Chapter 5 - The Snake's Strike

The kiss was not gentle. It was a torrential storm of three years of repressed obsession, blood oaths, and lethal desire.

Dante pulled her against him with desperate strength, his hands tangling in her dark hair, his mouth tasting of smoke and fine scotch. Nyla’s hands clutched the lapels of his shirt, pulling him closer, matching his fury with her own starved passion. For three years she had yearned for this man, and to discover that beneath his cold facade lay a devotion so twisted, so protective that he would willingly make himself a villain in her eyes... it broke every defense she had left.

When Dante finally tore his lips away, both of them were breathing raggedly in the cold air of the vault.

"Dante..." she breathed, her fingers lingering on his jaw.

"We don't have much time," Dante said, his voice instantly snapping back to razor-sharp military precision, though his eyes remained dark with desire. "Seol-ah knows her cover is blown. Your public humiliation stripped her of her leverage. Her masters in Vladivostok won't wait for the formal transfer of the docks. They will strike tonight."

"Where?"

"At the Haeundae coastal estate," Dante said. "Here."

Almost as if summoned by his words, the emergency red alarm lights inside the vault flashed. A shrill, pulsating siren cut through the stone corridors.

*Warning: Perimeter Breach. Sector 4.*

Dante’s face transformed into an icy mask of war. He reached beneath the desk, pulling out a tactical combat pistol, chambering a round with a smooth, practiced click. He handed a smaller, silver compact firearm to Nyla.

"Can you shoot?" he asked.

"My father taught me before he taught me how to hold a brush," Nyla replied coldly, checking the safety with seamless familiarity.

Dante stared at her, a feral, proud smile curving his lips. "God, you are magnificent."

They moved swiftly up the service stairs into the main mansion. Gunfire was already erupting outside the reinforced French doors. The sound of shattered glass and the heavy thud of automatic rifles echoed across the marble corridors.

Through the security monitors in the library, Nyla saw twelve tactical mercenaries in unmarked black combat gear advancing through the courtyard, cutting down the perimeter guards. Leading them from the safety of an armored black SUV was Han Seol-ah, her face twisted in manic rage, barking orders into a radio.

"Dante!" Seol-ah’s voice boomed through the estate's exterior loudspeakers. "Give me the ledger codes and the girl! The Russian syndicate has already seized your northern freight routes! Hand her over, and you might survive the night!"

Dante stepped to the window, his weapon steady. "She wants you, Nyla. She knows that as long as the Vane bloodline is alive, the deep-water tunnels remain sealed to them."

"Then she made a fatal mistake," Nyla said, her eyes flashing with diamond-hard resolve. "She assumed I was hiding in the vault."

Nyla ran to the grand breaker panel near the gallery hallway. Her father had designed this house. Every hidden switch, every drainage vent, every fire suppression valve was etched into her memory.

"Dante," Nyla called out, her hand on the high-voltage breaker. "Take the west corridor. When the lights die, count to three."

Dante glanced back, understanding instantly. A dark, predatory grin spread across his face. "Three seconds. Understood."

Nyla slammed the primary breaker.
