Chapter 51 - The Iron Leviathans

The red laser targeting reticles materialized across the reinforced glass of the penthouse like a web of burning veins.
"Get down!" Silas roared, his voice cutting through the terrifying hum of the open comms line.
Before I could even scream, Silas tackled me and Clara to the imported Italian marble floor, covering our bodies with his massive, muscular frame. A second later, the sky outside detonated.
It wasn't a high-explosive missile designed to level the skyscraper—it was an electromagnetic pulse strike mixed with heavy kinetic rounds aimed at the communications array atop the tower. The glass shattered outward into a million glittering diamond shards, suspended for a fraction of a second in the roaring pressure wave before raining down into the abyss below.
The lights across the entire penthouse died instantly. The rhythmic hum of the elevator ceased, and the digital lock systems groaned under an overwhelming surge of dead static.
"Silas!" I gasped, clutching Clara so tightly against my chest that my fingernails bit into the fabric of her coat. The little girl was crying silently, her tiny body trembling against my collarbone.
"I have you. Both of you," Silas hissed into my ear. His breath was ragged, but the cold, calculating fury in his eyes cut through the sudden pitch-black darkness. He rolled off us, instantly drawing a customized tactical sidearm from his shoulder holster, while his left hand reached into the hidden compartment behind the kitchen island.
He didn't pull out a gun. He pulled out a heavy mechanical lever—pure, un-hackable, analog iron.
He pulled it with all his strength.
A deep, grinding roar of gears echoed within the walls. Thick steel blast shutters slammed down over the exposed windows with the force of falling guillotines, sealing us off from the harbor winds and the targeting lasers of the fleet outside.
"Who is she?" I demanded, my voice shaking as I brushed shattered glass from Clara’s hair. "What did your father do twenty years ago?"
Silas knelt beside me, his thumb gently wiping a tear from Clara’s cheek before his jaw tightened into pure granite. "Her name is Helena von Berg. The Sovereign Council isn't a street gang or an American cartel, Elena. It’s a centuries-old banking syndicate that finances private wars, topples regimes, and owns the offshore shipping corridors of the world. My father, Arthur, borrowed forty billion dollars from them to build Berth Nine and the Blackwatch fleet. He pledged my bloodline as collateral."
"Your bloodline?" My heart dropped into my stomach.
May you like
"If the Marcone bloodline doesn't hand over the sovereign maritime keys by the designated succession hour, they don't just forfeit the docks," Silas whispered, his voice turning deadly dark. "They eradicate the bloodline to seize the territory under international admiralty law. And right now... Clara carries the bloodline key."
