Chapter 5 - The Manhattan Summit

The penthouse suite on the top floor of Manhattan’s most exclusive skyscraper offered a breathtaking panoramic view of the glittering city skyline. But inside the private conference room, the atmosphere was thick with tension, cigar smoke, and impending violence.

Vincent Romano sat at the head of a massive mahogany table, flanked by his remaining capos. Seated around him were the leaders of the other four major syndicates: Falcone, Mazari, Morelli, and Gallo.

"He executed Mateo," Vincent spat, slamming his fist onto the table. "My inside man. Moretti found out about the security breach within minutes and put a bullet in him. The man is a paranoid tyrant!"

Don Falcone exhaled a slow ring of blue cigar smoke, leaning back in his leather chair. "You sent an assassination squad into his home, Vincent. What did you expect him to do? Send you a thank-you note? You pushed a dangerous man too far, and now you're whining because he bit back."

"He's destabilizing the entire syndicate commission!" Vincent insisted, glaring around the table. "If we let him keep consolidating power—especially now that he’s legitimizing that kitchen maid and her bastard child—he’ll squeeze all of us out of the shipping lanes within a year! We need to strike together. All five families, unified. We hit his main docks in New Jersey, burn his real estate assets, and force him to surrender."

Before any of the other dons could respond, the heavy steel security doors at the end of the suite didn't just open—they blew inward with a deafening, metallic crash.

The room erupted into chaos. Capos leaped to their feet, drawing their concealed firearms, shouting orders.

"What the hell—?!"

Through the billowing dust and shattered metal frames walked Alessandro Moretti.

He wasn't running. He wasn't even carrying an assault rifle. He wore a tailored black charcoal suit, his white shirt collar open at the neck, his hands shoved casually into his trouser pockets. Flanking him were Dante and six heavily armed Moretti enforcers, their weapons raised and locked onto every capo in the room.

Silence fell over the penthouse so suddenly it was deafening. The air was sucked right out of the room.

Vincent Romano went completely pale, his hand trembling as he reached for his pistol on the table. "Moretti... how the hell did you—?"

"You think your security team in Manhattan is better than the ones guarding my home, Vincent?" Alessandro asked, his voice cutting through the silence like a razor. He strolled into the room as if he owned the building—which, in truth, he probably did.

Alessandro stopped five feet from the head of the table, his dark eyes locking onto Vincent with a predatory chill that made the older mafia boss break out in a cold sweat.

"You invited these gentlemen here tonight to discuss my destruction," Alessandro said smoothly, glancing around at the other seated dons, who remained frozen, wisely keeping their hands away from their weapons. "Allow me to save you the trouble."

"You're trespassing, Alessandro," Don Falcone said cautiously, though his voice held a trace of grudging respect. "This is a commission summit."

"Was a commission summit, Falcone," Alessandro corrected without breaking eye contact with Vincent. "As of tonight, the rules are changing. For ten years, the Moretti and Romano families have maintained an uneasy truce. Vincent broke that truce when he sent hit squads onto my property to threaten my woman and my child."

Vincent snarled, his pride overcoming his fear as he gripped his pistol. "You stole my daughter's future! You humiliated my blood! You deserve to die, Moretti!"

Vincent yanked his gun up—

*THWIP.*

Alessandro didn't even flinch. Dante’s suppressed pistol fired with clinical precision. A bullet tore through Vincent’s wrist, shattering bone and sending his pistol clattering uselessly across the mahogany table in a spray of blood.

Vincent screamed, clutching his mangled hand, collapsing back into his chair in agonizing pain.

None of the other dons moved a muscle. They sat like statues, realizing with terrifying clarity that Alessandro Moretti held all the cards, and the game was over.

Alessandro stepped forward, placing both hands flat on the table, leaning in close to the bleeding, terrified Vincent Romano.

"Listen to me very carefully, Vincent," Alessandro whispered, his voice dangerously soft, yet carrying the weight of an executioner. "Your family is finished. Your shipping routes are mine. Your assets in Chicago and New York belong to the Moretti syndicate as of midnight. If you, or any man loyal to you, ever comes within five miles of my estate, my woman, or my daughter again... I won't just kill you. I will erase the Romano name from history."

Alessandro straightened up, adjusting his cuffs with absolute calm. He turned his back on the room, walking toward the shattered exit.

"Gentlemen," Alessandro said casually over his shoulder to the remaining syndicate leaders. "Enjoy the rest of your evening."

As Alessandro and his men vanished down the private elevators, the conference room remained frozen in stunned silence. Vincent Romano sat bleeding at the head of the table, his empire dismantled in less than five minutes by a man who valued his family above all else.

Back at the estate, the storm had finally passed, leaving the night sky clear and star-lit.

Alessandro walked up the grand staircase, his heavy footsteps echoing through the quiet halls. He pushed open the door to the nursery.

The room was warm and softly lit. Rosa was sitting in the rocking chair, fast asleep, her head resting gently against the back of the cushion. In her arms, little Lily was also fast asleep, her tiny fingers still tightly clutching the golden button she had found in the hallway days ago.

Alessandro walked over quietly. He knelt beside Rosa, gently brushing a stray lock of dark hair from her face.

Rosa stirred, her eyelids fluttering open. When she saw Alessandro looking down at her with infinite tenderness, the tension in her shoulders melted away.

"Is it... is it over?" she whispered hoarsely.

"It's over," Alessandro replied softly, pressing a gentle kiss to her knuckles. "Vincent’s empire is gone. The war is won. You and Lily are safe, forever."

Rosa looked deeply into his dark eyes, seeing no trace of the ruthless mafia boss who had just dismantled an empire in Manhattan—only a man who had finally found his home.

"Welcome home, Alessandro," she whispered, smiling faintly.

May you like

"I am home, Rosa," he answered, pulling them both into his arms as the future finally unfolded before them, bright and unbreakable.
