Chapter 10 - The Destination We Chose

Six months later, the crisp autumn air of late October swept across the rolling hills outside Grand Rapids, painting the Michigan forests in brilliant shades of copper and gold.

At Walker Freight Solutions’ newly expanded central headquarters, the logistics floor was humming with controlled, high-tech efficiency. Dozens of dispatchers tracked digital maps across massive wall-mounted monitors, routing fifty-ton transport trucks through interstate corridors with clockwork precision.

In his private corner office overlooking the sprawling shipping yard, Ethan Walker stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, buttoning the cuffs of a fresh dress shirt.

The door opened without a knock, and Claire walked in, carrying two take-out cups of artisan coffee and a thick sheaf of manifest papers tucked under her arm. She was wearing a tailored charcoal blazer over a deep blue silk blouse—the exact same shade of blue as the maid-of-honor dress she had worn the night they met.

"If you're checking the Muskegon shipment schedules again," Claire teased, setting the coffee cups on his oak desk, "I’m going to officially revoke your logistics license."

Ethan turned around, smiling as he closed the distance between them. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest, burying his face in the crook of her neck where the scent of jasmine and autumn air still lingered.

"I’m not checking schedules," Ethan murmured against her skin. "I was just calculating the exact distance between your father’s corporate office and my desk."

"And what’s the math?" Claire asked, tilting her head back, her dark eyes sparkling with that familiar, wicked amusement.

"Too far," Ethan whispered, before leaning down to kiss her. "Which is why I’m officially restructuring the corporate route."

Claire pulled back slightly, her smile radiant. "Oh? And what does the new route look like?"

Ethan reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-covered box, holding it out between them. The gold lettering embossed on the lid didn't belong to a wedding planner or a shipping manifest. It was simply their future, finally arriving at the exact right destination.

"Permanent," Ethan said softly. "No wrong turns, no missed pavilions, and no backup speeches required."

Claire laughed—that bright, beautiful, life-altering sound that had first stopped him in his tracks six months ago in a crowded hotel ballroom.

She took his hand, sliding her fingers securely into his.

"Delivery accepted," Claire whispered.
