Chapter 10 - The 72-Hour Clock

Friday arrived with a suffocating tension. The countdown to five o'clock was ticking on every monitor across the trading floor of Vale Meridian.

At 1:00 PM, Marcus burst into my office, his face radiant with an intensity I hadn't seen in months.

"Evelyn! The forensic team cracked the secondary offshore layer Julian created. It isn't just eighty million. The Zurich account held an additional forty million dollars routed through an international green infrastructure subsidy!"

I stood up, my pulse surging. "Julian was sitting on a hundred and twenty million dollars in cash?"

"Yes! The entire principal amount of the Apex Crest debt was sitting in a liquidity reserve in Switzerland under an automated custodial escrow! Julian intended to default on Vale Meridian, let Roman Vance seize the patents, and then use that exact hidden capital to buy back forty percent of the newly restructured company through a shell corporation!"

"He was cannibalizing his own company from the inside out," I said, awe-struck by the sheer depth of Julian’s psychopathic greed.

"Can we access the capital?" Marcus asked, his voice shaking with anticipation. "With Chloe’s sworn declaration and the court order confirming Julian’s fraud, the Swiss authorities have lifted the freeze in favor of the rightful corporate treasury!"

"Wire it directly into our settlement escrow account," I ordered immediately. "Every single cent. And call the United States Marshals and the SEC enforcement division. Tell them to have a field team present in our boardroom at 4:30 PM."

I walked over to the window, watching the fog roll across the Golden Gate Bridge.

For the first time in months, the crushing weight in my chest lifted. I placed my hand on my stomach, closing my eyes and whispering a quiet prayer to my lost son.
