Chapter 10 - The Vow in the Sunlight

Six months later.

The Amalfi Coast was bathed in golden May sunlight. The azure waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea lapped gently against the white limestone cliffs below Villa Vitale. Lemon blossoms perfumed the warm breeze, mingling with the crisp salt air.

There were no guards with automatic rifles in sight. There were no encrypted radios, no emergency vaults, and no shadows of impending war. The Eastern Seaboard syndicate was at total peace, ruled under an unshakeable, unified alliance. Richard Moretti had been exiled permanently to a remote farm in South America, stripped of every cent and forbidden from ever speaking his daughter’s name again.

On the sun-drenched marble terrace overlooking the ocean, an intimate gathering of twenty true friends and trusted allies stood under a canopy of white gardenias and wild olive branches.

Alessandro stood at the altar.

He wore a tailored cream-colored linen suit, looking relaxed, powerful, and whole. The scar on his cheek was a faint white line; the wound in his back was fully healed. In his pocket was an envelope containing two items: a pristine Italian passport under the name *Elena Vitale*, and the deed to a multi-million-dollar coastal estate registered entirely in Isabella’s name, free of any syndicate ties.

He had placed it on her nightstand that morning with a note: *If you walk down the aisle today, it must be because you want to stay. If not, the boat at the harbor is yours. You are free.*

His heart, hardened by decades of blood and betrayal, hammered against his ribs with pure, unadulterated anticipation. For all his power, this was the one thing he could not control.

The acoustic guitar began to play a gentle, traditional Neapolitan melody.

The double glass doors of the villa opened.

Alessandro’s breath caught in his throat.

Isabella walked toward him down the stone path, accompanied by no one. She walked under her own power, with her head held high.

She wore a simple, flowing gown of ivory silk that danced in the sea breeze—not fifty pounds of restrictive tulle, not a bruised corset, but a dress that let her breathe, let her move, and let her live. Her dark hair had grown out into soft, shimmering waves that brushed her shoulders, crowned by a simple wreath of olive leaves.

She held no flowers. In her hand, she carried the small silver shears she had used to cut her way out of his estate on their first wedding night.

As she reached the altar, she looked up into Alessandro’s gray eyes—eyes that held no coldness now, only an ocean of devotion and fierce, unyielding love.

She placed the silver shears into his open palm.

"I don't need these anymore," she whispered, her voice rich with emotion, her dark eyes shining with happy tears. "I spent my whole life looking for a window to escape from, Alessandro. But with you... I finally found a home I never want to leave."

Alessandro’s fingers closed around the shears, tossing them gently onto the small stone table beside them. He reached out with both hands, cupping her face with a reverence that silenced the entire world around them.

"You were never my captive, Isabella," he murmured, his voice thick with raw emotion. "You are my sovereign. My heart, my life, and every breath I have left belongs to you."

The priest smiled, raising his hands. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Don Alessandro, you may kiss your bride."

May you like

Alessandro pulled her into his arms, lifting her off her feet as his lips met hers under the radiant Italian sun. The kiss was not born of violence, fear, or forced contracts—it was a promise forged in fire, sealed in blood, and sanctified by choice.

As the small gathering erupted into cheers and the warm breeze carried the scent of lemons across the cliffs, Isabella wrapped her arms around her husband’s neck, kissing him deeply, knowing that she had run into the dark only to find the light she had always deserved.
