Chapter 10 - The Horizon

Six months later, the glass-and-stone house overlooking Lake Michigan was filled with the soft sound of laughter, clinking champagne glasses, and the gentle strumming of acoustic guitar music.

There were no board members. No corporate raiders. No HR compliance officers.

Just a small, intimate gathering of close friends and family celebrating a wedding that the corporate gossip columns had dubbed *The Merger of the Century*.

Claire stood near the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding a glass of vintage champagne and wearing a stunning emerald-green bridesmaid dress that looked suspiciously similar to the one Natalie had worn on that fateful Sunday night.

"I still say," Claire announced to the small group gathered around her, "that I deserve a consulting fee. If I hadn't forced her into that green dress, these two would still be playing corporate chess until they were ninety."

Laughter rippled through the group.

Across the sunlit patio, standing near the stone railing where it all began, Natalie watched Ethan laugh—a real, unreserved, joyful sound that no business magazine had ever managed to capture on film.

He wore a tailored black tuxedo, the white shirt beneath crisp and unblemished, fastened at the wrists with two heavy silver cuff links that matched perfectly.

Ethan caught her looking. He excused himself from the conversation, walking across the stone patio with that familiar, commanding stride that had once intimidated her, though now it only made her heart skip a beat.

He stopped in front of her, sliding his arms around her waist and pulling her close against him as the late afternoon sun cast a golden glow across the water of Lake Michigan.

"Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Coleman," Ethan murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her temple.

Natalie smiled, resting her hands against his chest, feeling the steady, strong beat of his heart beneath her palms.

"I was just thinking," she whispered, looking out at the endless horizon where the blue water met the bright Chicago sky, "that whoever built this schedule... finally got it right."

Ethan smiled, his dark eyes shining with quiet adoration, and pulled her in for a long, perfect kiss as the sun slowly dipped below the glittering city skyline, promising a future that belonged entirely to them.
