Chapter 24 - The Serpent in the Hangar

Teterboro Airport was shrouded in driving sheets of rain and freezing mist.
Hangar 4 belonged to a shell corporation controlled by Vanguard Apex. Two black SUVs and an unmarked private ambulance were parked inside the illuminated cavern of the hangar, right beside a gleaming Gulfstream G650 with Swiss registration numbers.
Inside the hangar, sitting in a leather wheelchair wrapped in a cashmere blanket, sat Brooke Whitaker. Beside her stood Victoria Whitaker, dressed in a sharp tailored trench coat, checking a gold Patek Philippe watch.
"Where is the boy, Victoria?" Brooke demanded, her face pale, her hair disheveled from her hasty prison extraction, yet her aristocratic sneer firmly intact. "The agreement was that Nathan’s child would be brought here before the wheels left the tarmac! Arthur promised me!"
Victoria turned slowly, looking down at Brooke with absolute, unadulterated contempt.
"You stupid, hysterical old woman," Victoria said, her voice dripping with venom. "Do you really think my father cares about your freedom? Or that he wants *you* in Zurich?"
Brooke blanched, recoiling in her wheelchair. "What are you talking about?! I gave Arthur thirty years of my life! I covered up his offshore skimming! I bore his legitimate son!"
"And you raised Nathan into a spineless failure who married a common peasant," Victoria laughed coldly. "The strike team sent to Nathan's house wasn't just bringing Leo. They were instructed to eliminate Nathan and his wife. You were merely the bait to keep the federal authorities distracted while we prepared the flight plan. You aren't coming to Switzerland, Brooke."
Brooke gasped, her hand clutching her chest. "Arthur wouldn't... he loves me!"
"Arthur loves bloodlines, not liabilities," Victoria sneered, drawing a suppressed pistol from inside her coat. "And you, Brooke, are the greatest liability the Whitaker family has ever produced."
*CRASH!*
Before Victoria could squeeze the trigger, the hangar’s reinforced glass skylights shattered into a million falling diamonds.

Two tactical ropes dropped from the ceiling, and through the torrential downpour, two black-clad figures descended directly into the center of the hangar like vengeance incarnate.
