Chapter 5 - The Fall of Vance Empire

Arthur Vance stood frozen near the front stage, his jaw clenched, staring up at me as if trying to decipher a riddle. He was a man who had spent forty years crushing careers, burying scandals, and playing god with actors' lives. He wasn't used to anyone looking down on him—literally or figuratively.
He grabbed a handheld microphone from an adjacent podium, his voice booming over the ballroom speakers with forced bravado.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please remain calm!" Vance shouted, projecting an air of boardroom authority. "This is a malicious, fabricated smear campaign orchestrated by a mentally unstable spouse. Security, escort Mrs. Devereaux off the premises immediately! Vanguard Studios will be filing an injunction and a fifty-million-dollar suit for corporate espionage by tomorrow morning!"
I smiled. It was the first genuine smile I had worn in months.
"Go ahead and call your legal team, Arthur," I said through my lapel mic. "Ask them about the Sterling Trust."
Vance’s face visibly drained of color. The microphone in his hand wobbled.
"The... the Sterling Trust?" he stammered, his booming voice suddenly cracking.
"Six months ago, Vanguard Studios faced a liquidity crisis following two back-to-back box office catastrophes," I explained, addressing the room, where every major investor and distributor was listening with rapt attention. "You needed eighty million dollars in mezzanine debt to greenlight Ryan's new action franchise. You borrowed that capital from a private offshore holding entity—the Sterling Trust."
I took a step closer to the edge, feeling Julian’s steady hand lightly resting near the small of my back, offering quiet, unshakeable support.
"The Sterling Trust was established by my late grandfather, Harrison Sterling," I revealed, watching Vance's knees give way as he leaned heavily on the table. "I am the sole surviving trustee. Which means, Arthur... I don't just own Ryan's contract. As of sixty seconds ago, when Vivian executed the default trigger clause based on your company's ethics violation... I own seventy-two percent of Vanguard Studios."
A collective gasp swept through the executives. Several board members sitting near Vance instantly recoiled from him, distancing themselves physically from the disgraced mogul.
"You... you can't do that," Vance whispered into his microphone, his voice now a pathetic squeak.
"I just did," I replied coldly. "By the authority vested in the majority shareholder, Arthur Vance is hereby stripped of his title as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. And as for Ryan Devereaux..."
I turned back to look at my husband, who was staring at me in total, catatonic shock.
