Chapter 3 - The Unscripted Premiere

The spotlight hit me with the heat of an interrogation lamp, blinding and pristine. Below, in the grand ballroom of the Beverly Hills Grand Hotel, the clink of crystal flutes died instantly. Hundreds of tuxedos and couture gowns shifted as five hundred heads tilted back, expecting the glittering, golden-boy grin of Ryan Devereaux and his freshly anointed starlet, Brielle St. James.

Instead, they were looking at a ghost.

My hospital-pale skin was framed by dark emerald silk, my knuckles resting lightly over the sterile gauze taped beneath my dress. I stood at the edge of the private VIP balcony, my face projected across the mammoth forty-foot LED screens framing the main stage.

The ballroom fell into an eerie, suffocating hush.

"Ladies and gentlemen," my voice rang through the state-of-the-art acoustic system, crystalline, calm, and utterly devoid of mercy. "I apologize for altering tonight’s running order. Ryan Devereaux was meant to take this stage to celebrate the launch of Vanguard Studio’s multi-million-dollar slate. But my husband is currently detained backstage... trying to wash away the sweat of his own disgrace."

A collective gasp rippled across the floor. In the VIP front row, Arthur Vance, the all-powerful titan of Vanguard Studios, slammed his champagne flute onto the linen-draped table so hard the stem shattered.

"Cut the feed!" Vance roared, his face turning an apoplectic shade of purple as he pointed a trembling finger at the sound booth. "Who the hell let her on that balcony? Cut her mic!"

Behind me, the double doors rattled. Ryan was pounding frantically against the reinforced wood, screaming my name through the crack of the door, his security guards powerless against Julian’s private tactical unit.

"Don't bother looking at the sound booth, Arthur," I continued, leaning slightly over the railing. "My team purchased the broadcast uplink rights for tonight’s charity gala forty-eight hours ago. Every satellite feed, every livestream camera, and every teleprompter in this room belongs to me."

On cue, Vivian executed the command.

The giant screens flanking the ballroom flickered. The promotional poster of Ryan and Brielle locked in a passionate embrace dissolved. In its place appeared high-resolution medical monitors: timestamped telemetry logs, an operating room reservation sheet, and an emergency transfusion order dated exactly three hours ago from Cedar Sinai Hospital.

"Two hours ago," I said, my voice echoing into the dead silence, "I was undergoing an emergency surgical intervention for internal hemorrhaging caused by an ectopic pregnancy that ruptured while my husband sat in his dressing room upstairs. While I was under general anesthesia, Ryan Devereaux took his phone off the hook, signed a non-disclosure agreement with Vanguard Studios, and escorted Brielle St. James onto the red carpet to announce their supposed 'on-screen chemistry.'"

Murmurs exploded across the room. Several high-profile entertainment journalists in the press pen immediately raised their phones, typing at lightning speed.

"And as for the sweet young thing he’s been flaunting?" I gestured toward the screen. The image shifted.

A confidential DNA paternity analysis and text transcript flared across forty feet of high-definition glass. The messages showed Ryan explicitly coordinating Brielle’s secret apartment lease, paid for directly out of our joint marital trust account, complete with ultrasound pictures that Arthur Vance’s public relations team had planned to leak next week as a 'surprise romance.'

"Ryan wanted a blockbuster premiere," I whispered into the lapel mic, looking straight down into Arthur Vance’s horrified eyes. "I just decided to give him the true story."
