Chapter 10 - The Open Horizon – A Happy Ending

Six months later, the summer sun danced across the crystal-clear waters of Lake Michigan, reflecting blinding arcs of light against the glass facade of the Duca estate.

The sprawling stone terrace was filled with laughter, clinking champagne glasses, and the rich scent of grilled rosemary lamb and summer fruits. Twenty-three members of the Duca family mingled freely, but the toxic whispers, the rigid social hierarchies, and the cold snobbery of the past were completely gone.

Nicholas Vale was currently serving a seven-year sentence in a federal correctional facility in Indiana, his expensive Brioni suits replaced by standard-issue khaki jumpsuits—a permanent reminder that crossing the Duca family’s mathematical conscience was a fatal error.

Bianca Duca sat at the center of the terrace table, laughing genuinely as she watched her granddaughter—wait, no, she wasn't there yet—as she watched Hannah present the annual philanthropic impact report to the newly restructured Duca Foundation board.

Hannah stood at the head of the long oak table on the terrace. She wore a stunning emerald-green summer dress that hugged her gorgeous, full curves to absolute perfection. Her posture was radiant, her confidence absolute, and her dark hair fell in soft waves past her shoulders.

Every single person at the table—from Uncle Arthur to the youngest cousins—listened with rapt attention and profound respect as Hannah detailed the expansion of the foundation's winter shelters into twelve new Midwestern states, completely funded by recovered assets and smart restructuring.

At the back of the terrace, leaning against a stone pillar with a glass of scotch in his hand, Roman Duca watched his wife with an expression of pure, unadulterated worship.

When Hannah finished her presentation, the terrace erupted into warm, enthusiastic applause. Even Bianca stood up, clapping proudly, blowing a quiet kiss across the table to her daughter-in-law.

Hannah offered a radiant, dazzling smile, taking her seat beside her husband.

Roman immediately slid his heavy arm around her waist, pulling her flush against his side, his fingers tangling securely in hers beneath the table.

"You know," Roman murmured, leaning down so his lips brushed the shell of her ear, his voice thick with deep affection, "you just made the foundation ten times more profitable than it was under my mother’s twenty-year tenure."

"I told you," Hannah tilted her head, her eyes sparkling with playful triumph as she took a sip of her sparkling water. "I’m never wrong about numbers, Roman."

"You’re never wrong about anything, my love," Roman laughed softly, pressing a lingering kiss against her temple.

As the sun began to dip below the Chicago skyline, casting a breathtaking canopy of gold, pink, and violet across the endless expanse of the lake, Hannah rested her head comfortably against Roman’s broad shoulder.

The past was buried beneath snow and algorithms. The present was secure, thriving, and brilliantly bright. And as they looked out toward the open horizon together, hand in hand, the Duca family finally understood what true strength looked like—not in the cruelty of a slap, but in the unbreakable grace of a queen who ruled with love, brilliance, and absolute power.

*The End.*
