Chapter 7 - THE REBUILDING OF MERIDIAN ARC

Three months later, the business world had fundamentally reshaped itself around Meridian Arc Systems.
The acquisition of Horizon Global had not only consolidated Meridian’s dominance in logistics and predictive AI, but it had also positioned Claire as one of the most influential young tech magnates in the world.
Yet, despite her multi-billion-dollar net worth, Claire’s daily routine remained stubbornly grounded.
She still drove a modest electric car. She still wore simple, comfortable clothes. And she still drank her coffee out of the chipped blue ceramic mug she had carried out of the Bellevue estate.
"The expansion into the European markets is fully approved by the Brussels regulatory board," Daniel reported, walking into Claire’s office with a stack of digital signatures on his tablet. "And our new philanthropic initiative—the Thomas Dawson Technical Scholarship Fund—has already enrolled its first five hundred students from working-class families across the Pacific Northwest."
Claire smiled, signing her name on the digital pad. "Make sure the scholarship includes mentorship programs, Daniel. A lot of brilliant kids don't need just money; they need someone to tell them their ideas matter."
"Will do, Boss," Daniel said, pausing at the door. "Oh, by the way... there's someone downstairs in the lobby asking to see you."
Claire looked up from her desk, raising an eyebrow. "Who?"
"An old acquaintance," Daniel said, a faint, ambiguous smile touching his lips. "He says he has an appointment, though he doesn't look like he has much else left."
Ten minutes later, Claire stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of her executive office, looking down as the heavy double doors opened.
A man walked in.
He was wearing an off-the-rack suit that was clearly two sizes too big for him. His hair was unkempt, his face hollowed out by months of stress, sleepless nights, and legal battles. The golden boy of Bellevue had been reduced to a ghost of his former self.
Evan Mercer stopped ten feet away from Claire’s desk. He looked around the vast, luxurious office, then slowly raised his eyes to meet hers.
He didn't look arrogant anymore. There was no trace of the snide, condescending smirk he had worn when handing her a divorce check.

"Hello, Claire," Evan whispered.
