Chapter 10 - The Queen’s Vow

One year later.

The Grand Cathedral of St. Michael was bathed in the warm, golden glow of thousands of white candles.

The scent of peonies was entirely absent. In their place, hundreds of white garden roses and cascading orchids lined the grand aisle, filling the cathedral with a fresh, sweet, and majestic fragrance.

Every seat in the cathedral was filled with dignitaries, diplomats, business titans, and the city’s true royalty. But unlike the Marchetti wedding, there were no false smiles, no whispers of deceit, and no hidden mistresses.

I stood in the antechamber, staring at my reflection in the full-length antique mirror.

My wedding gown was a masterpiece of haute couture—sculpted ivory silk with intricate lace detailing along the bodice, cascading into a cathedral train that stretched ten feet behind me. Around my neck hung the sapphire pendant, redesigned into a custom platinum setting that symbolized rebirth and resilience.

The door opened softly, and my lead architect from the Docklands project, Maria, stepped inside with tears in her eyes. “Isabella… it’s time.”

I took a deep breath, holding my bouquet of white orchids, and stepped out into the grand gallery.

The cathedral doors swung open.

The thunderous, triumphant chords of the organ filled the magnificent space. The entire congregation rose to their feet in unified reverence.

I walked down the aisle alone—not because I was abandoned, but because I walked under my own power, as a woman who had rebuilt her own destiny.

At the end of the aisle, standing before the altar, was Lorenzo Vescari.

He wore an impeccably tailored black tuxedo with a crisp white shirt, but it was his face that stole my breath. The ruthless, untouchable mafia boss had completely vanished. In his place stood a man looking at me with eyes so full of adoration, reverence, and unyielding love that my vision blurred with happy tears.

When I reached the altar, Lorenzo stepped down to take my hand. His fingers closed tightly around mine, steady and warm.

“You look breathtaking, my queen,” he whispered, his voice trembling slightly with emotion.

“You don't look too bad yourself, Mr. Vescari,” I smiled back through my tears.

The archbishop began the ceremony, his words echoing off the high stone arches. When the time came for the vows, Lorenzo turned to face me fully, taking both of my hands into his. He did not read from a prepared paper.

“Isabella,” Lorenzo spoke, his deep baritone carrying clearly to every corner of the silent, reverent cathedral. “A year ago, I found you in the cold, and you thought your story had ended. But you were never the ending, Isabella. You were the foundation. You taught me that true power is not built on fear, but on loyalty, courage, and grace. I vow to protect you, to honor you, and to love you until the stars burn out of the sky. What is mine is yours—my empire, my name, and my heart.”

My hands trembled with emotion as I looked into the eyes of the man who had rewritten my destiny.

“Lorenzo,” I answered, my voice steady, clear, and ringing with absolute devotion. “You gave me back my strength when I had forgotten my own name. You stood beside me against the storm and gave me an empire to build. I give you my heart, my loyalty, and my soul, without reservation, for the rest of my days. Wherever you go, I will stand beside you. Not in your shadow, but as your equal.”

Lorenzo slipped a flawless, pear-cut diamond ring onto my finger—a ring that bore no ties to the past, only the promise of an unshakeable future. I slid a simple, elegant band of black titanium and gold onto his hand.

“By the power vested in me,” the archbishop proclaimed, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Lorenzo, you may kiss your bride.”

Lorenzo did not hesitate. He framed my face with his hands and pulled me into a deep, tender, breathtaking kiss.

The cathedral erupted into thunderous, joyous applause that shook the stained-glass windows.

As we broke apart, Lorenzo smiled down at me, his eyes gleaming with boundless pride. He offered his arm.

“Are you ready, Mrs. Vescari?” he asked softly.

I wrapped my arm around his, holding my head high, ready to face the world, the future, and our empire together.

“Let them watch,” I smiled.

And side by side, king and queen, we walked into the sunlight of our forever.
