Chapter 27 - THE SHADOW IN THE MIRROR

The Dolder Grand stood atop the Adlisberg hill overlooking Zurich like a fairy-tale fortress, its spires piercing the crisp alpine morning. Below, Lake Zurich shimmered under a pale blue sky, indifferent to the storm brewing within the hotel's opulent marble walls.

In the private penthouse suite on the fourth floor, I stood before a floor-to-ceiling gilded mirror.

The reflection looking back at me was unrecognizable. The tired, weathered woman who had endured the laughter of twelve cruel guests at that fateful Easter table was gone. I wore a tailored charcoal-grey velvet gown with sharp, structured shoulders, complemented by a triple strand of South Sea pearls that Arthur had deposited into the Zurich vault on our tenth anniversary. My silver hair was swept up into an austere, elegant chignon.

Derek stood beside me, dressed in an impeccably cut Savile Row tuxedo, his posture tall and commanding. For the first time in his adult life, he bore the unmistakable bearing of Arthur Miller.

Behind us, Evelyn adjusted the clasp of my diamond cuff. Her hands were steady now, her gaze fierce.

"You look terrifying, Mom," Evelyn whispered, using the word *Mom* with an authentic, reverent warmth that made my heart ache with quiet pride. "In the best possible way. The Montgomerys and the Sterlings always thought nobility was something you bought at a charity auction. They have never seen real royalty."

"They will see justice today, Evelyn," I replied, patting her hand. "Are the press briefings prepared?"

"Distributed to the Financial Times, Bloomberg, and Reuters under embargo until 9:15 AM," Julian Vance-Vogel announced, stepping into the suite with two junior partners carrying heavy leather briefcases. "Victor Sterling has just taken the podium in the Grand Ballroom. Senator Cross is seated in the front row, flanked by the Swiss federal press corps. The stage is set."

I took a slow, deep breath, feeling Arthur’s spirit beside me, steadying my spine.

"Let us not keep my husband’s old friends waiting," I said.
