Chapter 3 - The Forensic Ledger

I guided Victoria Sterling and Officer Daniels toward my study, where my dual-monitor setup glowed softly in the corner. My home wasn't extravagant, but every inch of it was paid for through my own tireless freelance development work and financial consulting. To think that Ryan had tried to smear this sanctuary with two million dollars in stolen money made my blood run cold.

"Before you look at his fabricated paper trail, Ms. Sterling, look at mine," I said, pulling up my internal network server. "I’m a systems engineer and forensic data consultant. Every device that enters this house, every IP address that pings my router, and every communication sent through my home network is automatically logged and encrypted."

Victoria leaned in, her sharp, immaculate demeanor shifting into pure professional curiosity. "Ryan’s financial report claimed that the wire transfers originated from an IP address mapped directly to this neighborhood. He submitted a signed power of attorney granting you authorization over the offshore shell entity, 'Aegis Horizon LLC'."

I pulled up my personal timestamped records. "Look at the routing metadata from this morning. When the final five-hundred-thousand-dollar tranche cleared at 9:14 AM, my home router recorded Ryan's personal cellular device attempting to connect to my guest Wi-Fi from his car parked outside my driveway. He didn't even come to my door until 9:22 AM to abandon his two daughters."

Daniels leaned closer, his jaw clenching. "He parked down the block, pushed the transaction through his spoofed mobile VPN using your geolocated IP tower, and then walked up to your porch with the kids to make it look like you had custody of his hardware."

"Exactly," I said, opening an audio vault on my external drive. "And he forgot one crucial detail. My front porch security system doesn't just record high-definition video; it has directional acoustic sensors. Listen."

I pressed play. Ryan's voice emerged through the studio monitors, crystalline and sickeningly calm, talking to Madison over hands-free bluetooth while his little girls sat quietly in the backseat:

*"The wire is verified, babe. The IP matches her house. By the time the auditors flag the escrow discrepancy next month, she’ll be on the hook for wire fraud, and our tickets to Lisbon will already be stamped. Just keep her distracted with the dinner invite tomorrow so she doesn't check her credit alerts."*

Then Madison’s voice, sweet as honey and dripping with venom: *"Make sure you tell her it’s 'family training.' It keeps her feeling inferior. She’s so desperate for family approval she won't even think to look at her corporate registry until the handcuffs are on."*

Silence hung in the study, thick and suffocating. Daniels let out a low whistle, shaking his head in absolute disgust.

Victoria Sterling smiled, a predatory gleam in her eyes that promised total annihilation. "A premeditated conspiracy to commit federal wire fraud, identity theft, and corporate embezzlement, coupled with felony abandonment. Ms. Carter, you haven't just cleared your name. You’ve handed me the exact rope to hang your brother in federal district court."

"I have more," I replied calmly. "Let’s look at Madison’s personal accounts."
