Chapter 10 - The Final Balance

The autumn wind rustled through the golden leaves of Central Park as a sleek black Maybach glided smoothly past the wrought-iron gates, heading downtown toward the glittering canyons of Manhattan.

In the back seat, Brianna closed her leather-bound ledger with a satisfying snap, sliding it neatly into her briefcase alongside her laptop.

The transition of Marlowe Global from a syndicate-backed shadow empire into a fully legitimate international shipping and real estate conglomerate was officially complete. The federal investigations were closed, the Cayman accounts were fully repatriated, and the last remnants of the old guard had either retired to the Mediterranean or were serving time in federal penitentiaries where they belonged.

Dominic sat beside her, watching her with a quiet, unwavering adoration that he reserved for no one else in the world.

“You’ve been staring at that briefcase for twenty miles,” Dominic noted, his lips twitching into a faint smile.

“I’m just checking the final balance,” Brianna replied, turning her head to look at him, her dark eyes sparkling with a victorious, radiant confidence. “Every asset verified. Every liability cleared. Not a single discrepancy left.”

Dominic reached across the leather seat, taking her hand in his large, warm palm. His fingers intertwined with hers naturally, a silent testament to everything they had survived together.

“And what does the audit say about our future?” Dominic asked softly.

Brianna smiled, leaning her head against his broad shoulder as the city lights blurred into a warm, golden sea of amber and neon outside the tinted windows.

“It says,” Brianna whispered, “we’re finally in the black.”

Dominic pulled her closer, pressing his chin against her hair as the car carried them forward into the bright, unending promise of a new morning, forever side by side, exactly where they belonged.
