Chapter 31 - The Ghost from the Atlantic

The salt air of the Mediterranean had always tasted like freedom, but tonight, as the yacht cut silently through the midnight swells toward the Greek Isles, a sudden chill in the atmosphere made the hairs on my arms stand up. Dante was below deck reviewing portfolio metrics on his encrypted tablet, leaving me alone at the stern with a glass of Pinot Grigio and my thoughts. The digital world back in New York and London thought I had vanished—a corporate phantom who liquidated her shares and disappeared into the high-seas billionaire playground. But ghosts, especially bitter ones born of broken dynasties, rarely stayed buried. My phone, a burner device used only for absolute necessities, vibrated against the teak table. A single text message from an unknown roaming number flashed on the screen: "You forgot to settle the final invoice, Eleanor. The past has a compounding interest rate." I stared at the glowing text as the wind whipped my hair across my face. It wasn't Julian; his corporate carcass was still drowning in the SEC investigations I had meticulously orchestrated before leaving. This was someone far more dangerous—someone who had watched us from the shadows of Monte Carlo and was now moving in for the kill.
