Chapter 4 - The Keynote Blackout

The grand auditorium of the Palais des Congrès was packed to capacity. Over four thousand journalists, tech executives, institutional investors, and venture capitalists sat beneath the dazzling blue and white stage lights. The massive backdrop displayed a towering graphic: *PRESCOTT TECHNOLOGIES: THE DAWN OF AETHER-PRO.*
Aaron stood backstage, adjusting his micro-headset. He felt like a god.
"Two minutes, Mr. Prescott," the stage manager whispered.
Jasmine stepped up behind Aaron, carefully straightening his tie. "You’re going to change the world today," she purred, looking up into his eyes with unmasked devotion. "And I’m so proud to be the one standing beside you."
Aaron smiled down at her, leaning in close enough that his breath stirred her hair. "After this launch, Jasmine, Prescott Technologies will be valued at forty billion dollars. And I won't forget who stood by me when others walked away."
He stepped out onto the stage.
The applause was deafening. Spotlights tracked his confident stride across the pristine platform. Cameras clicked in a continuous, machine-gun rhythm. Across the globe, over two million people were watching the official live stream.
"Seven years ago," Aaron began, his voice deep, resonant, and practiced, "the world was told that autonomous machine learning had reached its ceiling. They told us that neural routing could not process real-time contextual adaptation without collapsing under server load. They said the architecture was impossible."
He paused, letting the silence build, perfectly hitting his mark.
"They were wrong. I built Aether-9 from the dirt up. And today, I give you Aether-Pro."
With a dramatic flourish, Aaron clicked the handheld remote. The giant LED screen behind him flickered, preparing to display the live system diagnostic and proprietary algorithm source code.
Instead of the sleek blue interface of Prescott Technologies, the screen flashed an ominous, stark white.
A single, massive black document appeared on the four-story display.
At the top, clearly legible to four thousand industry titans and millions of viewers worldwide, was a formal decree from the *Tribunal de Commerce de Paris* and the *United States District Court for the Southern District of New York*:
**EMERGENCY CEASE AND DESIST ORDER: PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION FOR UNLAWFUL EXPLOITATION OF PROTECTED INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.**
**PLAINTIFF: LUMINA HOLDINGS LLC / STERLING FAMILY TRUST.**
**DEFENDANT: PRESCOTT TECHNOLOGIES INC. & AARON PRESCOTT.**
**NOTICE: ALL DEMONSTRATIONS OF THE AETHER NEURAL ROUTING ARCHITECTURE ARE HEREBY ENJOINED UNDER FEDERAL PATENT NUMBERS US-9842104 THROUGH US-9842116. ANY PUBLIC TRANSMISSION CONSTITUTES WILLFUL CONTEMPT OF COURT.**
A stunned, suffocating silence descended upon the auditorium.
Aaron froze, the remote still clutched in his hand. His smile calcified into a grotesque mask of confusion. "What... what is this? Production, switch to slide two. Bring up the secondary deck!"
He clicked the remote frantically. Nothing happened.
From the front row, David Chen stood up. Beside him was a French bailiff wearing a tricolor sash across his chest.
David held a microphone provided by a bewildered French television crew. His voice echoed through the auditorium with absolute clarity:
"Mr. Prescott. On behalf of Lumina Holdings and Lady Alyssa Sterling, sole beneficial owner of the foundational patents governing your entire software stack, you are formally served with this emergency injunction. You have zero legal authority to demonstrate, commercialize, or claim ownership over this technology. Step off the stage."
A collective gasp swept through the room, followed by the blinding eruption of hundreds of camera flashes.
"Turn off the stream!" Aaron roared, his composure shattering entirely, his voice cracking into the microphone. "Turn off the goddamn cameras! Who authorized this?! Jasmine, get security!"
Backstage, Jasmine was staring at her tablet in sheer terror. The Prescott Technologies stock ticker was displayed on her screen. In pre-market trading in New York, the stock had just dropped twenty-two percent in four minutes.
And on the live stream, which had not been cut, David Chen looked directly into the camera lens and spoke four words that shattered the seven-year myth of Aaron Prescott:
May you like
"The architect has arrived."
