Chapter 7 - The House of Cards Collapses

Within forty-eight hours, Bianca's entire empire turned to dust.

Federal agents from the IRS Criminal Investigation division and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service executed search warrants at the Holland Medical Logistics executive offices in Chicago and Bianca's rented estate in Malibu. The shell companies were instantly frozen. The leased Porsches were towed. The high-society Instagram lifestyle vanished overnight, replaced by federal indictments, ankle monitors, and the cold, unyielding reality of criminal court.

Roman Nash's law firm dropped her representation by Monday morning, publicly releasing a statement distancing themselves from her fraudulent accounting practices. Realizing she had been abandoned by everyone she had ever manipulated, Bianca tried to call me.

My phone buzzed on the kitchen counter while I was brewing morning coffee. I looked at the screen: Bianca.

I let it ring out to voicemail. I didn't feel anger. I didn't feel triumph. I just felt a profound, quiet emptiness—the kind of stillness that comes after an IED clears the horizon and you realize you're still breathing.

Lydia called me later that afternoon to give me the legal debrief.

"The federal prosecutors are offering her a plea deal," Lydia said over the phone. "Five years minimum if she cooperates and hands over every asset she purchased with embezzled funds. Her lawyers are trying to negotiate, but with the forensic audit we provided, the evidence is bulletproof. She's done, Hawthorne."

"And the company?" I asked.

"The federal receiver is restructuring it. They're reinstating Emmett Reynolds as interim CFO, and they're bringing back the veteran drivers Bianca fired. Your father's legacy is going to survive, but it's going to take years to clean up the financial damage."

"Let them clean it," I replied, looking out the kitchen window at the quiet Chicago street. "My part in that circus is permanently over."

"Well, not quite," Lydia chuckled softly. "Your thirtieth birthday is next Tuesday. Your trust fund matures. All $3.2 million will be transferred directly into your personal, unencumbered private accounts. You are officially a multi-millionaire, completely free and clear."

"Thanks, Lydia. For everything."

"Just doing my job, Captain. Enjoy your peace."
