Chapter 35 - The Architect’s Gambit

Julian’s face darkened, the aristocratic composure finally cracking to reveal the snarling monster beneath. "You still fight for them! For the weak! For a world that treated you like a broken hound until they needed a hero to parade around the television cameras!"
"I fight for the people I swore to protect," Michael answered, advancing step by step, discarding the captured weapon to meet his brother with his bare hands. "Something you never understood, Julian. Honor isn't a medal you pin on your chest. It’s the blood you’re willing to bleed so innocent people don't have to."
Julian roared, abandoning tactical discipline and charging with reckless ferocity, swinging his karambit downward in an executioner's strike. Michael sidestepped with surgical precision, caught Julian’s extended arm, locked his elbow against his shoulder, and applied brutal leverage.
A sickening *CRACK* echoed across the concrete as Julian’s elbow shattered backward.
The knife dropped harmlessly to the ground. Julian gasped, stumbling back, clutching his broken arm against his chest, his face pale with agony. The remaining mercenaries raised their weapons, but before they could squeeze off a single round, the deafening screech of a dozen federal sirens pierced the night fog.
Flashing red and blue lights illuminated the access roads leading to Pier 44. A fleet of black armored vehicles, led by federal tactical teams bearing the insignia of the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, battered through the port gates. Above us, the heavy thrum of twin-rotor MH-47 Chinooks descended from the clouds, their high-intensity searchlights bathing the pier in blinding daylight.
"Hands where we can see them! Drop your weapons!" amplified megaphones roared from the helicopters.
The mercenaries, realizing the operational theater had collapsed, threw down their weapons and raised their hands in surrender.
Julian, leaning against the shipping container, looked up at the sky, then down at Michael, his breath ragged. "You... you called the feds? You brought the bureaucracy here?"
"No," I called out, holding up my tablet, which was now flashing with active federal transmission logs. "I didn't call the Joint Chiefs, Julian. I sent your encrypted blueprints, your cargo manifests, and the unedited audio of your confession directly to the Director of National Intelligence and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The White House had no choice. You aren't a ghost anymore. You’re the most wanted terrorist on American soil."
Julian looked at me with venomous hatred, then turned his gaze back to Michael. Despite his shattered arm and total defeat, a slow, terrifying smile spread across his bloodied lips.
"You think you’ve won, little brother?" Julian whispered, his voice laced with venomous triumph. "You think this ends at Pier 44?"
"It ends for you," Michael said, stepping forward to restrain him.
"This was never the primary shipment," Julian coughed, a laugh bubbling with blood rising from his throat. "Look at the shipping manifests, Michael. Container serial number: Alpha-Omega-Zero-Nine. Does that designation mean anything to you?"

Michael froze, his face draining of all color.
