Chapter 10 - The Choice

Three months later, the spring sun was shining brightly over Richmond, casting a warm, golden glow across the manicured gardens of the Reed estate.

The annual spring gala—now rebranded as the *Community First Foundation Celebration*—was being prepared down in the city, but tonight, the sprawling historic manor on the outskirts of town was entirely quiet.

Inside the grand library, surrounded by towering bookshelves of leather-bound classics, a roaring fire crackled in the limestone fireplace.

Evelyn stood by the French doors, looking out over the rolling lawns, wearing a simple, elegant ivory silk dress that hugged her frame effortlessly. Her life was unrecognizable from the invisible, overworked coordinator who had whispered in a dark hallway just a few short months ago.

Footsteps echoed softly behind her.

Strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest. A familiar, clean scent of cedarwood and expensive scotch washed over her senses.

"Penny for your thoughts, Executive Vice President," Andrew murmured into her hair, pressing a lingering kiss against the soft crook of her neck.

Evelyn leaned back into his embrace, a soft, content smile spreading across her face. She reached up, resting her hands over his arms.

"I was just thinking about that night," Evelyn admitted softly. "The night of the gala. The invitation. The hallway."

Andrew rested his chin on her shoulder, his dark eyes softening as he looked out the window with her. "Do you regret any of it?"

"Not a single second," she whispered, turning in his arms so she was facing him directly. She looked up into his intense, devoted gaze. "If Megan hadn't crossed my name off that list... if I hadn't stood in that hallway and whispered those stupid words... I never would have known what it’s like to truly be seen."

Andrew smiled—a rare, completely unguarded smile that made him look breathtakingly handsome. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, velvet-covered jeweler’s box.

Evelyn’s breath hitched.

"Evelyn Morales," Andrew said, his voice dropping into a low, resonant register that carried an absolute, unshakable promise. "I heard your wish that night. And I intend to spend the rest of my life making sure you never have to wonder, ever again."

He popped the box open. Inside rested a stunning, vintage-cut diamond ring that caught the firelight like a captured star.

"I'm choosing you, Evelyn," Andrew whispered, looking into her eyes with a love so fierce and absolute it took her breath away. "Today, tomorrow, and for every day after that. Will you choose me back?"

Tears of pure, unadulterated joy welled in Evelyn’s eyes. The invisible girl was gone, replaced by a woman who commanded empires, held hearts, and knew her true worth.

She smiled, throwing her arms around his neck and pulling him down into a deep, passionate kiss.

"Always," she whispered against his lips.

And as the fire crackled warmly in the hearth, illuminating a future built on truth, strength, and an unconditional, unbreakable love, Evelyn finally knew what it meant to be home.
